Madam's Letter Ladies, Although June 21st is the Official First Day of Summer, Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer in my world! Children are out of school or will be in the next week; BBQs, pool parties and gatherings are planned all weekend long, boating is a must, the days are longer, and the evenings bring breezes to cool off the heat of the day. And it's time to plan for a summer vacation or two. Something we haven't been able to do with ease for years! But there's more to Memorial Day. On Monday, May 30th we honor and remember all of the brave men and women that have served and gave their lives to protect our country and our freedom. I encourage you all to attend either a local parade or service. And don't forget to thank all of the Veterans that you know. If you're on Pine Island, The VFW and American Legion join forces and host a service at the VFW beginning at 10am. Principal Dr Tom Millins will be the keynote speaker and the choir from Pine Island Elementary will be performing. If you're off the island, Coral Ridge Cemetery Director Chuck Warren will be joined by local dignitaries, bagpipers and representatives from service organizations in the Cape. Enjoy yourselves and stay safe! Hope to see you at our June meeting. Madam DJ |

Please consider sending a send note of encouragement and Thinking about you to Jeanne. She has been Carl's caretaker. Hey Gals! Wanted to share some good news for a change, further demonstrating how the Hookers Make a Positive Difference on the Island… Joyce Boyer texted to ask a few questions about where to take food pantry and "other" donations. It turns out that Joyce has been leaving our Hooker Calling Cards at Lazy Flamingo when she and hubby Tom are out for dinner. Her waitress, Mikayela, received our Hooker calling card and wanted to donate items for the Hookers. She generously offered up diapers, a Play Station and a Pack and Play. The diapers will be dropped off at the Food Pantry and the other items will be used for the next Bag n Tag. Mikayela was excited that the Food pantry donations stay on the island. Who knew our Hooker Calling cards would result in spurring donations? Donations from folks working at the restaurants that we hit up for donations so that they knew we patronized their establishments. We don't just solicit them for donations for our fundraising events. So leave those Hooker calling cards when you're out and about. And always remember we're here to continue making a positive difference in our Pine Island community. Thanks for sharing your story Joyce! |
