Welcome to the first edition. |

You are receiving this newsletter because you signed up on https://robertthasjohn.com to receive this newsletter. The idea behind this newsletter is to share some articles that I, as well as any collaborators, put out there. Your favorite search engine might not show all of my articles, so sending out a monthly newsletter is the best way I can think of to notify you of these articles. Besides my articles, I might write a quick summary on something I am reading, or tell you about an article, visualization, or something else that I will be working on in the next month. |

I started blogging on Medium because I found myself repeatedly answering the same questions. I figured that if one person had a question, someone else might have a similar question. After putting it off for a while, I decided to host my own website and blog. The blog is the major highlight of the site, but I also have pages for other things, such as visualizations that I have published on Tableau Public, or books I have worked on. |

Three new articles related to Machine Learning were published on the blog for this month. They all form a series |
Bite-Sized Machine Learning, Part 1 The first article in the series uses the example of a friend who sells mineral water and keeps her accounts to illustrate what Machine Learning is.
Bite-Sized Machine Learning, Part 2 In this article I discuss a checklist that I utilize to decide on whether or not a task is suited to Machine Learning.
Bite-Sized Machine Learning, Part 3 This article uses the analogy of cooking versus eating out to explain how you might choose to approach Machine Learning
One article was published under the Cloud Computing category. |
What is Cloud Computing Cloud computing is a new way of computing in which we no longer go out to purchase servers. Instead, we make use of servers belonging to major corporations.
Expect an article on AutoML. If you read Part 3 of Bite-Sized Machine Learning, then you have an idea of what AutoML is. In a nutshell, it uses something called Neural Architecture Search to find an optimal model for your task, and publishes it for you on the Google Cloud, all without you having to write code. Isn't that fun? Here is a video from Google about AutoML. |
There will also be an article on writing your first Machine Learning model using sklearn, which is a popular Machine Learning library that doesn't go into the mathematics or any optimization. I haven't decided on what data we will be using, so no spoilers here, just hang on tight ... |
Finally, we have a couple of guest contributors. Expect an article on Data Engineering, and another on container orchestration. What are those? Well, just hang in there! |
Thanks for reading. Until next month. |
