Christmas in Historical Wheatland There were times in Wheatland's early history where there was very little holiday merriment or even celebration of Christmas. Eventually the celebration of the Christmas holiday became more commonplace, generally focused on the gatherings of families and friends, with Christmas programs at the local churches and schools. Recreation Programs Information Winter Program and Event Registration is now OPEN! Get a copy of the latest Town of Wheatland Recreation Programs Flyer with a complete listing of current program offerings by clicking the "Programs Flyer" button below. Download program registration forms from the Recreation Department page on the Town of Wheatland Website or stop by the Wheatland Municipal Building to pick up registration forms, available at the Town Office any weekday. DON'T WAIT, AS THESE PROGRAMS HAVE CAPACITY LIMITS AND CAN FILL UP QUICKLY. Program participation is not restricted to Town residents, so invite your friends and family, even if they live outside of Wheatland. Come join in the fun! Questions? The Indoor Walking Program is a FREE fitness program offered by Wheatland Recreation during the Winter months that provides a safe, all-weather indoor walking course within the Wheatland-Chili Middle and High School facility. Walking is a low impact physical activity that can be great for weight loss, but can also provide significant additional benefits by boosting your energy levels, lifting your mood, helping to reduce stress, increasing creativity, and much more. Town Departments Notes and Information General - Town of Wheatland Holiday Hours Town Clerk's Office - General Property Tax bills for the Town, County and Special Districts will be mailed on or about December 31st for the upcoming calendar year, covering the period from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. Get a better understanding of your General Property Tax bill, including a detailed look into a sample tax bill that describes each of the various tax levies. - Payments - Accepted in person at the Town Clerk's Office located in the Wheatland Municipal Building, during normal office hours, starting January 2nd. Payments made in person can be made by cash or check. Payments can also be made by mail, send the payment to the Town of Wheatland, PO Box 15, Scottsville, NY 14546. Checks should be made payable to: Laurie Czapranski, Tax Collector. Taxpayers paying by mail should consider their cancelled check as their receipt. Please do not send cash through the mail. Payments are accepted by the Town of Wheatland through May 31st or by the Monroe County Treasurer beginning June 1st in the following manner:
Jan. 1 - Feb 10: No interest due Feb. 11 - 28: 1.5% Mar. 1 - 31: 3.0% April 1 - 30: 4.5% May 1 - 10: 6.0% May 11 - 31 6.0% interest, plus a notice fee . - Installment Payments - Total tax bill must exceed $100 in order to use this option. The first installment must be paid by February 10th. If the first installment is not paid by February 10th, the total tax bill plus interest is due. If the payment due date falls on a weekend or holiday, payment is then acceptable on the next business.
- Payments by Credit Card– Payments by credit card can be only made through the Real Property Tax Portal on the Monroe County website, enter your property information and select "Pay Property Taxes". Note that a fee for this service will be charged.
- Online Bank Payments – Because banks cannot guarantee your payment will be delivered by the due date, utilizing this method is at your own risk.

Assessor's Office - The Assessor's Office offers many services for Town of Wheatland residents and businesses, including: - Value real property within the Town in a fair and equitable manner for tax purposes,
- Answer questions about property assessments, including prospective home buyers,
- Answer questions regarding a variety of New York State property tax exemptions, including providing forms and helping to fill them out,
- Support the formal assessment review process.

My name is Jay Coates and I am the Town of Wheatland’s Fire Marshal and Emergency Coordinator. I am a lifelong resident of Wheatland, I was raised in Scottsville, went to school here and was also married here. My wife Jackie, a Doctor of Nurse Practice is also a lifelong town resident and together we raised our family here in Wheatland. I am a retiree from Rochester Gas and Electric, where I held various positions in the company’s regulatory, safety and security departments. I have served many years on the Town’s Zoning and Planning Boards and am currently Chairman of the Town Planning Board. |

For over 35 years I have been a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician. As part of this, I have taken many courses in emergency management, firefighting, emergency medicine, rescue and code enforcement. Over the years, I have served in several volunteer agencies and with Monroe County in leadership, operations, as well as responding to many emergency events. Currently, I am serving as a Firefighter/EMT at the Watkins Glen International Raceway, a NASCAR rescue instructor and with the Scottsville Fire Department as Firefighter/EMT and Executive Deputy Chief. Fire Marshal Roles and Responsbilities It is the mission of the Fire Marshal to help prevent and reduce the incidence of fire by increasing the awareness and knowledge of both the Town residents and business owners with respect to fire safety and by ensuring compliance with the New York State Fire Safety Code and applicable regulations of the State of New York as well as the Code of the Town of Wheatland.
