Woodworkers Chapter News

June 2024

Woodworkers Club Officers:  President: Sandy McKinnis, Vice President: Larry Holman;

Board Members: Bob Lackey, Greg Lyall, Alan Peck, Bill Poole, Jim Powell

May was the Woodworkers Chapter last monthly meeting before taking a break for the summer months. We will resume in September on the 2nd Tuesday of every month.

We hope you get out to enjoy the Alaska summer and will see you again in September for more classes, the Open Shop program and the monthly meetings.

Appreciation:

Special thanks to Jim Powell, Jonathan Snyder and Dohn Wood for loaning their hand tools for the Lie-Nielsen / Deneb Puchalski classes. Tools were sharp and ready to use!

Dohn Wood has volunteered to help students from the Build a Tool Chest class complete their project. Dohn has most graciously agreed to meet with students every Wednesday in June and July. Dohn is a hand tool master and teacher so I'm sure all students will have an awesome finished project. Thanks for going above and beyond Dohn!

Dohn also adjusted the fence on the Festool Miter saw that has been out of square for much too long of a time! It was very interesting watching him dismantle it and square up everything. Thanks a bunch.

Classes and Open Shop Program:

We want to thank all the instructors for teaching classes and the Open Shop Program monitors for supervising Woodworking Wednesdays during this past season from September. 2023 to May 2024. Most of our classes are led by experienced woodworker AWCA members for the benefit of all our members to learn, build and get to know fellow members.

Our instructors offered a wonderful variety of classes for woodworkers of all ability levels. Nearly all students left with a completed/nearly completed project. We had a total of 119 students, in 27 classes from September to May. Plus we had 18 attendees for Woodworking Wednesdays from December 28th to the end of May.

The success of our chapter depends primarily on our class offerings to get students in the shop making things! Our instructors all helped to make that happen! Their expertise and time are much appreciated by all members and the Woodworkers Chapter board.

Here is a list of many of the classes we offered from September to May:
