NEWS FROM DR. REID

Dear St. Patrick Families,

Amazing things have been happening at St. Patrick!

Our 2nd graders went to an apple farm and got to experience a hayride. They picked tons of apples that they used in science class as they made apple volcanos and learned about friction and force when they bowled with their apples. They also used the apples in math class and created bar, picture, and tally mark graphs.

Speaking of amazing! How about a random act of kindness. A group of 1st graders asked a kindergartener if she wanted to play with them during recess. They had a great time and made a new friend.

Today our marketing team from the Catholic Schools Office was at school taking candid shots of staff and students. These pictures will be used for our marketing material. If you have yet to complete the Back to School google form, please do so now as it includes our photo/video release form.

Student Council decided on a Dress Down Day and a fundraiser on October 10th. Students can dress down for a donation (minimum donation of $1.00). All monies received will assist the people in Puerto Rico. Iglesia del Santismo Sacremento (The Blessed Sacrament) is a Catholic Church in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Hurricane Fiona left this part of the island deeply distressed and many people lost everything. The money raised from our Dress Down Day will focus on replacing stoves and mattresses in the local community. Thank you for your support.

Terra Nova testing is scheduled for Monday, October 3rd through Friday, October 14th. All testing must be completed by Friday, October 14th.  If your child is absent, he or she will make-up the test prior to October 14th. Results are expected in December. Thank you for making sure your child is on time and present during testing.

Remember to sign up to be a part of our Love Builds Champions Team for the Buddy Walk on October 15th at UNCC’s Jerry Richardson Stadium (register link is below).

Congratulations to Ms. Tan, who is now Mrs. Stephens!

Have a great weekend and stay safe.

Blessings,

Dr. Alicia Reid

WALKER DISMISSAL PROCEDURE

If your child will be a walker this year at any point, be sure to select "walker" as one of the options on our Online Form (below).  This form states that your family must live within walking distance of the school (no more than 1 mile away) and as parents you understand that your child will be escorted out of the building and expected to walk home without supervision. For safety reasons we will not allow students to be walkers if you do not live within a reasonable walking distance of the school, no more than one mile.

Walkers will still continue to enter the gym in the morning as in years past. In the afternoon, walkers will be released out the door nearest the first grade classrooms which exits near the Family Life Center. A staff member will walk students to the Family Life Center area at which point they will continue to walk home.  If a parent will meet the child to walk with them, they should plan to meet their child on the sidewalk between the church rectory and the Family Life Center. Families will not be permitted to play on the playground after school due to carpool traffic.  Parking is not permitted in the rectory parking lot under any circumstance.

BIRTHDAY TREATS

Students are permitted to bring in store-bought (not homemade) treats to celebrate their birthdays with their class during lunch. Families have the option to purchase ice cream from the cafeteria for the birthday boy/girl and/or for the whole class to celebrate a birthday. Ice cream orders must be placed with Mrs. Loeber, the cafeteria manager, at least one week prior to the date to ensure enough ice cream is available for the class to participate. Mrs. Loeber can be reached via email at ejloeber@stpatrickschool.net.

Also, if you have information about possible sexual abuse or misconduct by any clergy, employee or volunteer of the Diocese of Charlotte, report concerns securely and anonymously 24/7 over the phone or online: 1-888-630-5929 or www.RedFlagReporting.com/RCDOC.
