We spend very little time on the beach at the moment because we cannot do rescues anyways, but on beautiful days like today we go out and simply enjoy Pelican Point. We even spot the odd old rescue in the middle of the seals, the very specific scars around their necks give away how close they came to a different outcome. We also see seals with new entanglements - they will have to wait for a few more weeks for us until it is safe enough for the babies.
We are on call for potential harbour rescues all the time - the success rate is very low, but we try anyways. We receive more and more phone calls from the fishing factories about entangled seals, we take it as proof that our work is seen as relevant. And maybe our rescues will motivate fishermen to be more careful with old fishing lines and fishing net.
We will use our downtime for our long long to do list - the OCN LandCruiser needs some urgent repairs, we need time for our plastic workshop, and of course we need to keep the daily rescue video going, because entanglements do not stop on weekends or holidays, and neither do we.
Thank you.
