FLUSH and our fans have been traveling and has some fun toilet pictures to share!

Have interesting toilets you'd like to have showcased in this newsletter? Email us!

Katherine W. shared a picture from her travels to India, where deities have been posted across the outside walls.

Why would they do this? Because people are less likely to urinate on walls if they see a deity staring back at them.

(a similar effort in Bangladesh is on our map)

Urinating on walls can be problematic. Urine has uric acid in it, which is what causes that strong and unpleasant smell in public bathrooms. Also, urine is acidic, which can corrode building walls .

Marion A. shared with us this exciting public display in the Netherlands. It's a public toilet that cleans the wastewater into coffee right after you flush!

This company - Semilla - is using space technology for onsite sanitation management. That way, you can use the toilet and have a cup of tea from your flushed water afterward. Would you drink this tea, if given the chance?

While in Kenya, FLUSH has gotten to tour where our waste goes to after the toilet. This picture is of a fecal sludge treatment plant.

The piles under the tarps are full of organic matter - both human waste and organic waste like banana peels. These piles are composting over a number of months before it can get used as agricultural fertilizer. Pretty cool!

Lastly, if you don't want to get any more emails from us ever again, that's okay! Just let us know via email, and we'll remove you from our list.
