Let's Welcome our New Lead Instructor

& Program Director!

Erica Tuz has joined us as our new, full-time Lead Instructor and Program Director!

Erica joined our volunteer team in 2023, and is excited to grow with Pegasus Springs this year.

Learn more about Erica (read below)

From the age of three, Erica Tuz forged a profound bond with horses, transforming them from mere companions into lifelong partners in her journey of passion and compassion. Growing up in a family deeply entrenched in the equestrian world, Erica's first steps into the saddle marked the beginning of a remarkable odyssey.

What began as a childhood fascination swiftly flourished into an enduring love affair with horses. At just five years old, Erica found herself entering the Morgan horse show ring, embarking on a path that would see her immerse ever deeper into the equestrian realm.

As the years passed, Erica's involvement in the equestrian community grew. By the age of fifteen, she was already lending her expertise to camps, imparting her knowledge and affection for horses to eager young enthusiasts. By seventeen, Erica was instructing private lessons, refining her skills across various disciplines, from saddle seat to western, hunt on the flat to basic dressage, and mastering the art of driving with equal finesse.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of her family's business, which welcomed horses of all breeds, Erica discovered a profound connection that transcended mere competition and accolades. Inspired by her cousin's daughter, who triumphed over cerebral palsy with the aid of therapeutic riding, Erica delved into the world of equine-assisted therapy.

Facilitating lessons for individuals with a spectrum of disabilities, from autism to Down syndrome, Erica witnessed firsthand the transformative power of the human-equine bond. Her dedication to enriching the lives of others through therapeutic riding became her calling, encompassing everything from parades to sleigh rides, riding lessons to swim team victories.

Today, Erica remains a beacon of altruism, driven by her unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others, fueled by her love for horses. Reflecting on her journey, one truth stands resolute - the connection between humans and horses knows no bounds, bringing joy, healing, and hope to all who embrace it.

Beyond her equestrian pursuits, Erica's journey has been enriched by her passion for education, having pursued studies in elementary education. She has also ventured into the mortgage industry, bringing her expertise to both sales and operations.

An avid reader of non-fiction and educational literature, Erica thrives on expanding her knowledge and exploring new avenues of learning. She finds solace in the company of her rescued Mastiff/Boxer mix and cherishes the simple pleasures, including her fondness for chocolate. Married to a wonderful and supportive man, Erica's life is a testament to the power of love, compassion, and the enduring bond between humans and animals.

David Woods Bartley

Speaker | Trainer | Writer & Advocate

Mental Health Wrapped in an Animal Tale. David believes the subject of mental illness, and the hope for mental health, is more approachable, colorful and relatable when wrapped in an animal tale.

The stories used are personal, taken from David’s 20 years of work in animal care and rescue. A period which includes 11 years running a nationally recognized animal sanctuary.

David weaves in accounts of the life and times of many of the animals he cared for in all his presentations. By using the narrative of his story, David works to tear down stigma, raise awareness of the crisis we now face, educate people about what mental illness is and what it isn’t, and give hope to those who suffer and the people in their lives.

Through speaking engagements, workshops, and trainings, David provides education, tools, and resources to help people move from mental “hellness” to mental wellness, and experience their very own sanctuary. CLICK ON VIDEO
