Well, I finally had to cave in and get a new cell phone because my other one wouldn’t stay charged much longer than an hour or two. To do the transfer, probably because of the 62,221 photos on my phone, the store had to keep my old phone along with the new phone for about 3 hours. No cell phone for 3 hours. Technically, semi-off the grid.

I came home, took a short nap, worked in my craft room, and listened to part of a book. It made me think of people who regularly take digital sabbaticals or how happy we are when we’re in the mountains and don’t have reception. Although this was a “forced choice” it made me think about how I might frequently engage in it more voluntarily. Because there are naps to take, friends to make cards for and books to listen to.

I had a crown put on one of my teeth.  My husband said, “It’s about time they honored you with a crown.”  To which I promptly gave him a big hug!

Back to the point…while waiting for a permanent crown on my tooth, I have a temporary crown.

It’s sturdy, but still fragile and delicate.  It’s not superglued to my tooth.  It’s a placeholder waiting until the real crown is ready in a few weeks.  Despite all of the instructions from my awesome dentist, it wasn’t 5 days before I popped my temporary crown off while trying to floss that tooth.  (See—I was trying to do the right thing—I was flossing!?!)

Truthfully, I was acting like there hadn’t been a change in my mouth and everything was normal.  It reminds me of times in life when things feel fragile, unsure, or a little shaky and we treat ourselves with the same rigidity, rigor and demands as when things are “normal.”

The after hours call to the dentist had me “reinstall” the temporary crown with toothpaste, be more cautious, careful and mindful of that tooth and treat it gently…like I should have from the start.  Are there areas in your life that need a little more care, mindfulness or flexibility while you’re in the midst of change, adjustments or something new?

You might consider what needs “more cotton and less concrete” (one of my favorite sayings) when you’re filling out the attached My Next 3 Months’ Goals worksheet as this month’s freebie.  (How did that happen, we’re halfway through the year?!)

I don’t have any tattoos, but if I did, people might guess it would say, “Be green and growing, not ripe and rotten.” (Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonalds originally said this).

The current Pacific Northwest rainy feel in our high-desert-plains of Colorado is making everything SOOOO green and lush.

My lawn and lilacs are loving it.  The earthworms are rejoicing on the sidewalks (I tell them to hurry back into the grass, but they don’t always listen).  The flowers are welcoming summer.  I am grateful for the water that helps our environment, will hopefully help prevent forest fires, and has saved me a penny or two on my water bill.
