Jeremy is only on his 4th month of lessons but moving at an inspiring pace. He's a multi-instrumentalist (drums, bass, & guitar) who also studies recording and music theory at the school. Jeremy also brought his wife into the community this past month as a student bass player.

Using a metronome is one of the best tools for getting better as quickly as possible. It keeps a steady beat and trains musicians to play without accidentally speeding up or slowing down. It also allows us to hear if we're interpreting a rhythm correctly. I use it to keep track of progress. If a student is having trouble with a part of a song or exercise we turn on the metronome to find a slower speed where they can have success. We gradually increase the tempo until we've reached our goal. This process never fails to improve playing instantly! Unless playing with a recording, students should always practice with a metronome.
There are plenty of free apps for phones, tablets, and computers. You can even access one through Google just by typing "metronome" in the search bar.
