Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Nolan Rouse, was born on June 9, 1967 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to David and Ruth (Nolan) Rouse. Dan grew up on a sixteen acre farm next to the Boone River, where he found a passion for showing and marketing 4-H and FFA lambs. He enjoyed helping with the family farm and had a love for the outdoors, nature and animals.

Dan received his education in Eagle Grove, Iowa, graduating from high school in 1986. From a young age, Dan had a strong interest in military tactics, history, philosophy, and politics. He had always wanted to become a soldier. After attending Iowa State University and being part of the Army ROTC program, Dan received his BA degree in Business Administration and Finance. Dan shortly thereafter went on active duty. He was a graduate of Army Ranger School and also attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) and was awarded his commission as a Commissioned Army Officer in 1991. Dan finished near the top of his class. During his twenty two years of service, he served in many countries around the world, including two tours in Iraq. He was awarded many medals, badges, ribbons, along with a Bronze Star. Dan wholeheartedly carried out his duty as an American soldier.

Dan was a dedicated Army Officer, he was also a loving son, brother, father, husband, and a friend to many. He touched many lives around the world. Dan was united in marriage to his college sweetheart, Anne Meyer of Calmar, Iowa in 1995. Together they had three daughters, Sophia, Fiona, and Isabella, who loved and admired their father for his sense of humor, his lovable personality, and his bravery in the line of duty.

Dan retired from the military in 2013, and spent a year in Abu Dhabi working as a military consultant for the United Arab Emirates. He later decided to spend the rest of his retirement near Denver, Colorado, and was working on his MBA at the University of Denver. Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Rouse passed away in his home in Greenwood Village, Colorado, on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the age of 51.

Left to cherish his memory are his children: Sophis, Fiona, and Isabella of Lakeville, Minnesota, and his former wife, Anne, also of Lakeville. He also leaves his parents, David and Ruth Rouse of Emmetsburg, Iowa, his sister, Anita Knotts of Hedgesville, West Virginia, as well as his nieces, nephews, and countless loving friends, relatives and military buddies.

The Rouse family would like to thank everyone who was involved in facilitating proper services after Dan’s passing, especially Zach, a good friend of Dan’s who showed great compassion and selflessness in helping Dan’s family during this time of need.

Not sure what to say?

Dave, Ruth, and Anita....I just today learned of your tragic loss. I too lost my son at 31, way too young so I understand your grief. Dan and my Ted class '87 probably played ball together. I left EG in 1993 to pursue a new career and only see the Eagle papers once or twice a year....that is how I learned. I am so sorry for your family. I think back to playing cards with you guys and we just had fun---no way to think the future would be otherwise. Be gentle with yourselves, and let God...

DAVE and Ruth...We are so very sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Dave, Ruth, Anita and Dans daughters, I am so sorry to hear this news. Dan was a great kid growing up and his military service was a great achievement. My heart aches for all of you and I will keep your family in my prayers. I will pray that you can feel Gods loving embrace as you face the days, weeks and months ahead.

So very sorry to see this!! My thoughts and prayers to you, Dave and Ruth, and your family. My heart is breaking for you. Thoughts and prayers for you all!

Thank you for your service!
