Here's Pumpkin to talk about...

Welcome to One in a Mulligan!
I'm so happy we're friends.

September was quite the month for us Mulligans.

It was a month for advocacy.

It was a month for discovering community.

It was a month of spreading awareness and kindness.

+

For those of you who don't know, September is NICU Awareness Month. I joined forces with Project Sweet Peas and took part in their NICU Awareness Month Random Acts of Kindness Initiative. With every act of kindness, I left behind a card dedicating that act to Flynn and his time in the NICU. I hope that this inspired those on the receiving end to inform themselves or even take a moment to think of those families currently enduring the life of the NICU.

It was also a reminder that not all acts of kindness have to involved money.
While I bought my fair share of extra coffee orders this month, we also have a budget. This caused me to think out of the box. Even something as simple as leaving notes in public bathrooms that say "You're beautiful" can change someone's day. You never know who you can touch when it's needed the most.

Make sure to also head over to blog and read about the amazing weekend we had attending the 4th Annual Think DIFFERENTLY Dash and the 7th Annual Accessibility Awareness Day!

What's Popular on the Blog?

My recent article, The Invisible Life, received the most views I've had to date! Thank you so much for this. I really tried to show my honest, vulnerable, invisible heart and discuss life as a special needs mother.

I hope that sharing this part of our lives makes special needs parents more included and visible. To all special needs parents, I see you.

Are You Obsessed?

Listen to This:

I have been laughing and crying along with Kate and Mandy as they talk about their lives as they navigate through life parenting twins with multiple disabilities/special needs.

Whether you're a preemie parent, a parent of multiples, a parent of a child/children with special needs, a parent, an aunt, an uncle, a grandparent, or just someone who wants to understand the life of someone behind closed doors...this podcast is for you.

Note: I love the episode on food. I felt so understood.

Most of us expect to meander through the motions of love, marriage and (textbook) baby in the carriage, but once in a while life has something a little more special in store.

"Special. Antidotes to the obsessions that come with a child's disability" is an uplifting, candid companion for those in the early stages of navigating a child’s disability, offering honest, reassuring and relatable insight into a largely unknown (and so, initially terrifying) part of our world.

"Special." is available for purchase on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, but check out your local libraries and bookstores near you!

Don't forget that it's almost cold, flu, and RSV season.

Every person in a child’s life – grandparents, aunts and uncles, siblings, cousins, and friends – is responsible for keeping him or her healthy. Do your part.
The NYS Department of Health recognizes peak cold, flu, and RSV season as October 16th through March 31st of each season.

Preparing for House Arrest...

While it's very important to remember that all infants must be protected from illness, premature babies have immature immune systems and get sick more easily than babies born at term. In fact, even a cold can send an immuno-compromised baby or child to the hospital.
