I believe the emotional state of happiness is something that everyone is looking to achieve. The feeling of being happy is something that feels good. We associate positive emotions when we think of happiness.
I also believe the human experience is meant to have happy moments and sad moments. There should always be a balance of positive and negative life circumstances, that is part of the human experience.
With that being said, I think there are many things we can do to bring happiness into our lives. Here are 3 things you can do to be happy:
Own your own happiness
Take responsibility for your own happiness. Take responsibility away from other people, things, and items. If your expectation is that people will make you happy, you will always have to depend on someone else to bring you happiness. If your expectation is that material things will make you happy, you will always have to get those things to bring you happiness.
To be happy, you get to think the thoughts that bring you joy, peace, and love. You find out what makes your heart and soul feel happy and use that energy to fuel and create happiness in your life. If you own your own happiness, no one can take it away from you.
2. Rewrite your story
Many people have a story of their past and how it should have been or should have gone. They continue to tell themselves that things should be different and they dwell on the negative. Many people have continuous thoughts of “I will never be happy” “I am just sad, that is who I am” or “I wish I could just be happy.”
The story you repeat over and over in your mind gets wired into your subconscious believing it to be true. What you narrate to yourself when you don’t feel happy is a story that doesn’t feel good. You get to REWRITE this story by changing the way you talk to yourself. Rewrite your story in a positive light about who you are, what happened to you, and where you want to be. You get to write the script and make your story one of happiness.
3. Enjoy the journey, not the destination
It is important to have objectives in your life that you want to obtain, that is the beautiful thing about growth… but it is just as important, if not more, to celebrate all along the way. When you continue to tell yourself “Once I achieve this, then I will be happy.” Notice how that makes you feel. If you always associate happiness with the end result, you only get to experience happiness at the destination. Striving toward what you desire while embracing each day will lead you to experience happiness more frequently.
Own your own happiness, choose to rewrite your story, and enjoy the journey. The world needs to see more of your happiness.
