Caught you reading!

Immortal Trees Bookshop weekly newsletter: Issue 3

Friday, May 19, 2023

It's been almost a year since we stepped away from our teaching jobs, and our last scholars will be graduating on Thursday. We are so proud of our Odyssey Institute seniors! Leaving high school is a big deal - we have done it a few times! - so we know all of the mixed feelings of relief, fear, hope, uncertainty, and faith that come with making that big change. To this year's graduating class, and all of our former scholars, we wish you life-long happiness and personal successes. May you always live your lives learning and growing, loving and celebrating. And maybe a little reading.

 Congratulations, class of 2023. <heart>

Happy Friday!

Stroke = No Joke.

Did you know that every 40 seconds, someone has a stroke? Did you know that every 3 minutes and 14 seconds someone DIES of a stroke? *

Do you know some of the warning signs?

Did you know it's not just something that happens when you are older?

Stroke survivor Lori Vober was only 29 when her life changed. She will be here this Saturday at 2pm to tell her amazing story and answer your questions from a personal perspective. Come get educated about how you can become more aware of something we don't seem to talk much about and meet someone who is truly inspirational. She even has a free gift for you.

FREE EVENT!

Ms. Margaret is our lovely volunteer who plans our weekly story and activity.

Saturday, May 20, 2-4pm

Lori Vober, author of a fantastic self-agency book, Choices, will be joining us for a reading and signing. Her books will be available for purchase. Lori survived a damaging stroke at the young age of 29, but her faith and perseverance helped her exceed doctor expectations. In her book, she asks readers, "When you are faced with a challenge, what choice will you make?" Come be inspired and empowered to take control of your life. Lori has also created a free personal reflection question packet that you will receive to help get you started. You don't want to miss this event!

T.J. Lombardi is back at the shop! He will be reading a teaser chapter from his book, The Dying Breed: Hunters, and will be signing purchased copies. We have the inside scoop that book number two is almost ready to go to print, so this is the perfect time to get started on this fantastic series. Charity's question to you after you've read book one is: which character is YOUR favorite?

Editor's last words: Bittersweet just a bit

For the last several years, May has been a month for reflection. Looking back on how we survived another school year, seeing summer on the horizon (sleeping in!), and dreaming of great things for the year to come all happen this unique month. Strange to say, but for me, May has always been more of an end-of year time that the end of December. But signing yearbooks, finishing grades, and getting in one more hug from a scholar before they go off to college didn't happen this year for either of us. It feels weird and a little empty. I don't miss teaching (although I truly liked my job at Odyssey Institute), but I do miss the joy and energy that comes with graduation and the end of the school year.

So here in the shop, we are using those memory experiences to help us celebrate what we've accomplished in the last year, reflect on what we need to keep working on, and plan a successful coming year to grow as a business. This newsletter was a start, but we are learning about Booktube and BookTok, and might even start a video channel! Wanna help? Send me a message. We are always looking for volunteers.

Thank you for being you. We hope you have a fantastic weekend!

~ Charity and Amy (and Jack and Toothless)

P.S. We might not be teaching anymore, but our former students will ALWAYS be our kids. If you are one of those, know that the door is always open for you. We love and miss you. ~ Mrs. H and Ms. Miller
