Love and Pray for Those People by Jennifer Shank What does love mean? As a believer in Christ I can say that God IS LOVE and according to 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 love is patient, it is kind, it isn't rude or boastful, it's not selfish or easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong, it is enduring, it always trusts, hopes and never fails. Loving others can also be one of the most challenging things to truly put into action. Of course it is so much easier to love those that are kind and reciprocate the same characteristics of love back to me; however, the true test comes when we are held to a higher standard, when we must learn to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. I can't say that I have many enemies in life but I do know that when the names or images of Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, Fran Drescher, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Andrea Ocasio-Cortez and Adam Schiff pass in front of my eyes, there is quite a sense of disgust that causes an almost acid reflux reaction in my physical body. The feeling is almost equivalent to seeing a person wearing a mask in their car while driving alone! Anger, frustration and irritation rises up inside of me and then the Holy Spirit reminds me to LOVE and PRAY for THOSE people. I am gently reminded of the grace and unconditional love that has been gifted to me through the sacrifice of Jesus. I am called to love - which means everything I mentioned earlier and then some! Not an easy reaction at all, but one that has taken a refinement of my character. As a believer in Christ I am called to pray for those who are walking in fear to instead be filled with faith. I am to pray for them to be blessed in a way so that they know Christ in the same manner that I know Him. God came to seek and save the lost, and I am reminded that at one point in my life, I was lost and Christ gave His life for me. So instead of cursing those that drive us bonkers, let us take a moment to lift them up in prayer, knowing that they are lost sheep in need of a Good Shepherd. Pray that their eyes are opened and that they too can be filled with a faith that will lead them into an eternity in Heaven. I can't say that it will be easy, but God will honor you for your choice and bless you for making an effort to bring glory to His kingdom! |
