HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hi Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and are ready to begin a prosperous and healthy 2023! I wish that for all of you! |
I am looking forward to growth and impact in my 2023, with a focus on new beginnings and, of course, more Eggings! Before we meet our January Good Egg, here's what's new: |
"Mama - I See Reggie!" Joey loved the premiere of The Good Eggs Video Series! Remember to tune in to The Michigan Learning Channel to watch! They began airing in December and will continue every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 pm EST through mid-January. |
Thank you to Amy Flores at CanvasRebel Online Magazine for her story highlighting The Good Eggs Foundation. CanvasRebel is based out of Los Angeles and their mission is to "create space for artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs to be able to learn from their peers through the magic and power of storytelling." |
LAST MONTH'S "EGGING" In December, we met with and egged Starfish Family Services. This amazing organization has 15 centers across Wayne County. |
The mission they live by is to "strengthen families to create brighter futures for children." They do this by providing quality support services in the areas of education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. We were able to donate 25 sets of books and many Meijer gift cards to be distributed to families in the programs. |
WHAT ARE THE EGGS UP TO THIS MONTH? (Book 1, Chapter 5) January - Cooperation The Eggs learn the importance of cooperating with each other as they begin to prepare for the school play. Peggy creates a mishap by not listening and nearly causes Benedict to get hurt. After finding out what caused Peggy not to cooperate, the Eggs offered her some comforting words. |
Then they gave her the treat she loves the most - vanilla ice cream with ketchup on top! Seggourney offered some wise words, "If we all cooperate, things will go smoothly." That's right, Seggourney! |
Now let's meet our January Good Egg! |

Share Detroit is a 501c3 nonprofit created to support all other nonprofits across metro Detroit. Our mission is to help these nonprofit fulfill their missions.
Share Detroit is a community engagement conduit offering simple ways for neighbors, nonprofits, and businesses to come together and strengthen our local community. We make it easy for people to find local nonprofits and engage with them how they choose whether it’s donating money, volunteering time, attending an event or buying much needed items from nonprofit wish lists. Our open and inclusive platform amplifies the needs of the entire nonprofit community, giving all organizations a chance to be seen and heard regardless of size, focus area or budget. We believe that by doing good together, we create a stronger, happier Detroit. |
SHARE Detroit is part of the Share Good network. The concept was created by a woman in Charlotte, North Carolina, who built up this concept and made it happen in Charlotte. Paul Vlasic and others in Omaha, Nebraska found out about this platform. |
They decided to invest to make it more robust and replicable. This is how SHARE Detroit started. I joined in 2021 to launch the platform in Detroit and give it the structure it needed to get moving. A few of us who joined have NPO experience and knew what we had to do to make a splash and keep the momentum going. So far, so good! |
| | For our nonprofit, like many startups, it is funding and building awareness. We are financially supported by two men who are our angel investors, but we need to start getting community support for our work so we can become sustainable in the future. The other challenge for a nonprofit like ours is getting our Detroit area community to know we are here, what we are about, and how easy we are making it for neighbors to DO GOOD. We are getting there! |
| | We have Sister Cities who have been doing this for several years longer than we have been, so we can see the road we need to walk. Our goal is to have more than 600 nonprofits on the platform as soon as possible and drive more engagement from the community to these nonprofits in order to build out sustainable funding and get increased volunteerism for ALL nonprofits, large and small, within the next two to three years.
| | It is so easy to get involved! People can visit our website at www.sharedetroit.org and find ways to DO GOOD! We have four pillars of giving: donate, volunteer, attend an event, or purchase something from an Amazon Wish List. If a volunteer visits our website, they will find the right way for them to get involved and find a way to support our nonprofits. We hope everyone who hears about us through The Good Eggs Foundation will take a few minutes to visit our website! |
Currently we have 320 nonprofits actively involved in the platform with about 50 more working on their profiles to join us. |
We just completed our Giving Tuesday and holiday season campaign to encourage the community to donate to the hundreds of nonprofits who are doing so much for our area and its residents. We will be hosting another Summer Kick-Off event. |
Our “Need Doesn’t Get a Vacation” volunteering campaign starts this June. Beyond that, our nonprofits have exciting things happening all the time! Visit www.sharedetroit.org to find an event to support! |
Thank you, Janette - you and your team are making a difference in our Detroit community! I hope you enjoyed reading about SHARE Detroit! You can find more information on their website: https://www.sharedetroit.org Next month's interview will feature a remarkable woman giving back and serving young women in the Detroit area. |
