Something to CELEBRATE as a community:

In recognition of the pioneering work we are doing here at Keeping It Sacred, the Center for Rabbinic Innovation (CRI), has just named me a 2022-2023 Fellow!

CRI's organizational focus has come out of decades of evidence that engagement in conventional synagogue life has been shifting, and there have been murmurs of the need for an evolution, or even revolution. CRI has focused on supporting the few leaders who have had the chutzpah and faith to break through and try something new. And, they have a great track record of supporting these new paths forward.

This fellowship is specifically designed for clergy who are working on entrepreneurial projects that reach beyond the walls of a synagogue or institution, and I am thrilled to be granted this honor among a select cohort of other leading-edge thinkers. CRI has recognized the spark that we have, and will support our ongoing development, amplifying the reach of our sacred work. 

I appreciate that they have recognized that we have something special at Keeping It Sacred. They know that we have dared to open ourselves to asking the big questions of life-- the questions of meaning and purpose-- and double dared to do this by engaging with others doing the same across all boundaries (not only geographic!). We also take pride in being a community that is made from, and appreciates, the beautiful fabric of human diversity in all its forms. Here, we affirm with whole hearts and deep commitment, that everyone has a valuable perspective to share. 

Our community has unfolded organically starting with sacred learning, with gatherings of healing, holidays, and advocacy immediately becoming core to our mission.  Keeping It Sacred is a place of spiritual wellness and depth (nerdiness, too!).

The Center for Rabbinic Innovation has faith in our efforts, and I am thrilled to be selected for this opportunity to gather among others at the cutting edge of the way forward; others who have begun not only to vision, but also to have faith in the people they serve; others, like me, who know that Jewish tradition will always be a valuable source of goodness and wisdom and who are proud to invest time in charting how it can be brought to the people most effectively in the 21st century.

If you are reading this announcement today, YOU are a valued part of this journey. Each of you has built what we are today. Collectively, you have ideated new programs, and helped publicized them. You have welcomed new participants, and connected with them. You have mourned and blessed and celebrated together. You are invested in one another and have literally invested in this community. You have helped to shape the bold, joyful, accessible, relevant, and empowering spiritual community, which, in turn, has inspired other leaders and communities. I am thrilled that we will enjoy support from the Center for Rabbinic Innovation, and can't wait for what's to come! Stay tuned (here through this weekly newsletter) for ways to continually shape our communal development. Rosh Chodesh is the celebration of the new month. And over the past six months, our Rosh Chodesh Racial Justice Review group has taken the time to explore 12 Steps to Changing Yourself and the World: An Abolitionist’s Handbook by Patrisse Cullors. Each new month, we discussed two chapters of this work which simultaneously addresses transforming our inner personal lives and also the institutional infrastructures of injustice around us.

This month Co-founder of Black Lives Matter, artist, and author of this inspiring work, Patrisse Cullors, will JOIN US 7/28 at 3pm PT/6pm ET to discuss her book!
