>>End of Year Greetings<<

Greetings to the WCSS community,

We hope this email finds you well as we draw towards the solstice, Christmas
and the new year!

It’s a lovely time to sit back and reflect after the madness of the school term.

Reflections

September seems a long time ago now, but at the same time months have flown by!
We started the term in a new home for the school with ten new students, a lot to get used to! As the weeks have gone by new friendships have formed, interests developed and conflicts resolved. Our school community is beginning to feel a lot more settled in it’s new home, whilst it still feels like there’s a way to go to fully establish the school culture.
We’re all de-schooling, relearning and constantly evolving: a wonderful journey to be on as a community of students and staff together.

Learning Opportunities

The students have had some wonderful opportunities this term, thanks to the very generous time given by voluntary tutors. Angelo has been coming in on a weekly basis to work with some students on game design; both boardgames and digital. Our neighbour Jitsu has also been coming in weekly to teach Japanese to a handful of keen students. The staff in the school offer a wide range of clubs for students from French, drama,
history, science, survival skills, maths and yoga
as well as one to one sessions in maths and wellbeing.

Our new home means we have access to Coomhola Salmon Trust’s Stream School, a wonderful resource for our nature club! We ventured to Coomhola River for some kick sampling and are looking forward to doing more in the spring.

Charity Shop & Wish List

Thanks to the initiative of one of our parent’s the school has it’s own charity shop in town, giving a couple of the students the opportunity to work in the shop whilst raising much needed funds for the school. As most of you will know we receive no state funding and so need to fund raise in order to make the school affordable and sustainable.
We often put out wish lists of items we need if people want ways to support us!

We would like to have more parents on board for other fundraising projects and teams.

If you would like to get in touch regarding fundraising and being invited to "FundingWCSS" meetings, please email info@westcorksudburyschool.ie

Settling into a new home, welcoming new members into our community and of course the background stress of Covid-19 have presented many challenges; but as we work through these things we grow as a community. We hope to slowly grow our school community to ensure the integrity of the ethos, and making sure everyone’s needs are met.

Wishing you all a very merry festive season and a happy new year ahead!
