Greetings CCCHS!

We were, once again, so excited to see many of you on last month's membership meeting via Zoom. We will again be holding June's membership meeting via Zoom. Typically, the June meeting is our annual picnic. Since we are not able to meet in person to enjoy a relaxing lunch, we wanted to provide an opportunity to focus on self care. We are looking forward to the presentations being provided on this topic and hope you enjoy them!

As a reminder, membership forms are available online. If you haven't renewed your membership yet or if you know of someone interested in becoming a CCCHS member, please visit www.theccchs.org and click the "join us" tab. If your organization is experiencing hardships at this time preventing you from paying your membership dues for 2020, please reach out to me, at hmoran@peerstarllc.com or 814-414-8028, to discuss options available to continue your status as a member.

Typically, membership meetings are not held during the months of July and August; however, the board is discussing options to provide opportunities for networking during this time. Stay tuned for more details via email.

Wishing you all health and wellness!

Uninsured Pennsylvanians Can Access Free Coronavirus Testing During COVID-19 Crisis, Addressing Task Force Findings

Harrisburg, PA – Pennsylvanians who don’t have health insurance can be tested for the novel coronavirus free of charge, addressing a concern identified by the Pennsylvania COVID-19 Response Task Force on Health Disparity chaired by Lt. Gov. John Fetterman.

Governor Tom Wolf announced Monday that federal stimulus funding will be used to reimburse providers who test uninsured patients, so those patients can be tested for free.

Access to testing for uninsured Pennsylvanians was a top concern identified by the task force formed by the governor to address inequality, including lesser access to care among minority groups. Read more >>

Wolf Administration Receives Approval to Launch Online Grocery Purchasing for SNAP Recipients During COVID-19 Crisis

Harrisburg, PA – The Wolf Administration received approval from the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to allow Pennsylvania to join the pilot program that lets recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, purchase groceries online through participating retailers

"Many people have been purchasing groceries online to facilitate social distancing, but SNAP recipients were not able to do so due to federal restrictions on SNAP and ecommerce. In most cases, SNAP recipients do not have flexibility to use online purchasing for grocery delivery or curbside pick-up, potentially putting health and safety at risk during this health crisis,” said DHS Secretary Teresa Miller. “We are grateful that FNS has approved Pennsylvania to join this pilot program to allow us to expand flexibility to SNAP recipients looking to utilize online grocery purchasing to support social distancing and COVID-19 mitigation efforts. Department of Health Warns of Scam Targeting WIC Recipients

Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Health today warned Pennsylvania’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) participants of potential scams and cautioned them not to disclose their personal information without verifying the identity of the caller.

Although WIC clinics do perform eligibility determinations, they will never call participants to request their bank account information to deposit funds directly into their accounts.

“The WIC program provides access to resources for mothers and children across Pennsylvania and we do not want our WIC participants worried about being taken advantage of – especially during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Sec. of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “We want participants to be alert, but know their information is protected and their benefits will continue to be distributed through secure means. Please be aware of potential scammers looking to steal personal information and report their number so more Pennsylvanians do not have this experience.”

If a WIC participant is unsure if a request for information is legitimate they should contact their local WIC office. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WIC services will be available over the phone or by virtual appointments until counties reopen into the green phase. Residents can find the address, hours of operation, and contact information for their local WIC clinic here.
