November 28, 2018
To our valued Clients,
During a BCC inspection on Tuesday, November 27, it was discovered that pesticide testing here at Sequoia Analytical Labs was not in compliance with BCC regulations. 22 of the required 66 pesticides, primarily, Category 2 pesticides, were not being correctly tested due to a faulty instrument. It was further discovered that the Lab Director knew about this and was secretly falsifying the results in order to issue COA’s from July 1 to November 27. This Lab Director has been terminated and a highly-qualified replacement has been hired.
Management and ownership were horrified to learn about this severe breach of a very important safety regulation. We have voluntarily surrendered our license to do COA testing to the BCC while we make the required corrections. We are already hard at work making the needed changes to the instrument and revamping procedures so that we may get our license reinstated January 1.
In addition to this notification, the BCC should be contacting distributors so that affected products may be retested. If you are a Distributor, have not heard from the BCC and have product concerns, you may contact them at bcc.labs@dca.ca.gov We are very sorry for the inconveniences this incident will cause our clients. We have always made client and patient safety our top priority and we will be taking aggressive steps to insure that such incidents never happen again at Sequoia.
We will keep you posted on our progress toward reopening for COA testing. We will be happy to retest any affected product at no charge when that time occurs. If you need any assistance arranging interim testing, please contact us.
Sincerely,
The Sequoia Team
