These past couple months have been full of work and excitement with our FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 9055, the Knights of Katahdin. We were very grateful to have the opportunity to present our robot to the Farmington Rotary Club, an organization that has made a huge impact in our community, and communities around the world. We also presented at the Wilton Lions Club, another local charitable organization, who helped build practice game elements for the Knights and bring them to our practice field area at SmartFun Learning Adventures gym. Thanks, SmartFun for letting us and other local FRC teams use your gym! A few weeks ago, we competed at the SE Massachusetts District event, and did very well. The robot had some major issues that came up with the arm, but our team played incredible defense, and we ended up being selected for the second alliance! This led us to placing in the final round, and then winning the Rookie Inspiration Award. We were featured in the Sun Journal, and you can read that article by clicking on this link. More recently, we competed at the UNH District event and ranked 14 of 41 teams by the end of the Qualification matches. We made it to the 4th, of 6 Rounds before being eliminated. We also won the Highest Rookie Seed and Rookie Inspiration (again!) Awards. We have qualified for the District Championship in Springfield, MA, April 5-8, along with our 2 sister teams 4906 The Collective, Mid-Maine Technical Center, Waterville and 2648 Infinite Loop, Messalonskee High School, Oakland, Maine. We are really hoping that the team ends up making it to the world FIRST Championship competition in Houston, TX, April 19-22. This would be an incredible opportunity for all of our students, and an honor to compete. Unfortunately, we currently are lacking a large piece of funding ($20,000!) to send our team. Any and all donations are welcomed (tax-deductible!). The button below will redirect you to our website, where you can donate with a credit card through PayPal or you can send us a check. |

We hope to be continuing this newsletter as a way to actively inform you of our work and how to connect with us. We want you to be aware of our changes in programs, and how to be involved with working with us. You can anticipate that most of our information for the upcoming months will be posted here as a resource. In lieu of the end of the FIRST season for our robotics team, stay tuned for the programs we will have coming this spring and summer! We want to stay active in our community, and continue to be teaching students (and families) more about the STREAM education here in Maine! |

We want to give a big thank you to all of our sponsors this season! Our practice field (or lack thereof) was a big stressor for the team at the beginning of the year. We would like to thank SmartFun Learning Adventures for providing a space, Hammond Lumber for providing lumber to build the practice field, and the Wilton Lions Club for building practice game pieces. Thank you to NASA, FIRST, NE FIRST, Bath Iron Works, the Gene Haas Foundation, James Creznic DMD PA, IEC, The Fitch Company, IMAC, and all of our students and their families for their support of our program. As we continue to grow, each contribution is greatly appreciated. |
