As many of you know, we have been submitting government grant applications lately to further our ALIVE (Abundant Love Impedes Violent Engagements) Initiative. After denial from a grant through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice we felt an array of emotions to include defeat. We couldn't wrap our heads around why we didn't receive it and why God would give us so many new ideas to combat gun violence in our community just to get shot down.
We had to trust that God remained in control. Someone who is also in street ministry and has a tremendous heart for our young black men told us about the grant that Newport News had for gun violence. After being denied for the grant described above, we didn't plan on applying and skipped the informational sessions. It wasn't until God placed another person, a Captain from NNPD, in our paths who also encouraged us to apply that we prayerfully gathered our application together and applied. Being that it was so last minute, we were thankful that pretty much all of the work was put in for the previous grant we had applied to.We are filled with joy to let you all know that we have been selected for funding and will be able to expand upon our ALIVE (Abundant Love Impedes Violent Engagements) Initiative.
