FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

USB drives are now back in stock; I'm sorry for those of you that have experienced a delay in receiving them. If you haven't received yours yet, it will be on it's way to you in the next day or so (it takes a while to upload all the content and I'm working through as quickly as I can). Thank you for your patience.

I'm continuing to update older lesson packs that have needed attention for quite a while now, although I've only updated the linear simultaneous equations one this month.

As well as…

Mammoth Starter Packs

If you haven't seen these already, each PowerPoint includes a 2 or 3 question starter for each lesson of the year. Aiming for grades 5 and 9 published so far, 7 is close to completion!

Mathematical Modelling

I've written a blog on the importance of mathematical modelling - modelling thought processes, methods of working and answers.

Website of the Month: Goal Free Problems

As we get closer to the exams, I thought I ought to bring this fantastic website to your attention! Peter Mattock has put together 100 foundation and 100 higher questions there so far, but other users are starting to upload their own, both here and elsewhere on the internet. (Check out his book Visible Maths, available now!) Goal free problems have been proven to support pupils in improving their knowledge and understanding by removing the cognitive load of the goal and therefore not prompting means-end analysis of a problem. Definitely worth a look.
