Pandemic papas

Cuomo says NY is open, a new family portrait, and dads in doodles.

Hello! Father's Day is coming up and today's newsletter features various fathers.

First, I have a doodle about Cuomo — who I called my "pandemic dad" in last year's early quarantine doodles — announcing NY is back. But we aren't the same anymore. Plus, a family portrait of my friends whose family just became three.

And, I need help with ideas for Father's Day! For now, see my own dad (Alan, not Cuomo) in his self-doodle.

Thanks to those of you who sent feedback on the business cards last week. I’ll send the winning combo soon! If you haven’t voted yet, see the options, included in last week's newsletter, and email me your favorite.

Enjoy!

I publish this newsletter of my latest doodles every Sunday, and you can see archives here.

My former pandemic father encourages me to leave the apartment

This week, Cuomo was on a press conference telling me to get outside! I don't need to socially distance! Tourists are welcome back!

Gov. Cuomo was a character in my earlier quarantine doodles about different stages of the pandemic where I considered him part of the family. See the full doodles here and snippets below.

But, Cuomo has done some things that are putting some distance between us in terms of trust, like getting accused of sexual misconduct and lying about nursing home deaths. Now, we're a little less cozy and I'm a little more skeptical.

A year disrupted: Dealing with pandemic changes

I made a short video out of last week's doodle about my anxiety then (early pandemic) and now (late/end-of-pandemic?). Also, this doodle is getting a ton of engagement in the /NYC thread on Reddit. It's interesting to see how others are feeling in the comments.

Happy anniversary, Hannah and Sean

I was their friend in college, a bridesmaid at their wedding, and now their first family potraiter. Is that a word? But, they have someone new to look after now (see the three of us below)!

Hannah and Sean are celebrating their third wedding anniversary this month, and the birth of their daughter, Chandler Grace. (So Sean is now a pandemic papa!) I tried tracing on my tablet for the first time to draw this sweet family. If you want your own custom doodle, contact me!

Dads in doodles — what do I do for Father’s Day?!

Most dads aren’t out there drawing themselves like mine is. (See my dad and his self portrait below!) So what do I create for a Father’s Day card?! I’m creatively stuck!

Reply to this email with any feedback on the business cards from last week, thoughts about my newsletter frequency, or Father’s Day dad doodles ideas. And I finally start my second book, "Quarantine Chronicles"!! I've already been writing it in real time with this newsletter. Thanks, as always, for reading!
