Practices of resilience for First Responders, Veterans + Military Members |
|
|
I teach civilians & military members evidence based yoga and meditation classes to help enhance their work/life experience. Stress is a part of life, we can't take that away, but we can chance how we process it and find balance, resilience and focus. Through in-service training, your group will experience evidence based lecture and instruction on the skills, followed by experiential practices to put it into use. |

Learn how to process stress and create a mindset that allows you to draw strength from the toughest parts of your job. |

We will discuss how the brain and nervous system are affected by repeated stressors on the body, and how you can begin a simple practice to keep your mind fit. iRest is shown to: -help cope with stress -resolve trauma -relieve chronic pain -improve sleep -decrease anxiety

Yoga isn't just about the poses, its about how your breathing, body and mind interact. "Our issues are in our tissues" Stress accumulates in the body over time and leaves us feeling locked up, and tight. Moving through poses that get into the fascia (fibrous tissue that surrounds the muscles & bones) is a way to release that stress, and create more flexibility in body and mind. As a Warriors At Ease instructor, I teach yoga & meditation that is: -evidence based -trauma sensitive -informed by the unique aspects of first responder + military culture

From Bill: Though I’m not the most flexible, calm or meditative individual, I found Jenn’s class to be geared towards my personal abilities. Her patient and personal interaction during this class gave me the sense that I was the only person in the room, even though there was a full class of people. I am new to yoga and do not fully understand the positions, however Jenn’s instruction in class was clear and easy to follow. The pace of the holds and stretches was perfect for me and her calming voice had me relaxed and focused. Being a first responder and adrenaline enthusiast, I benefitted greatly from the meditation and breathing techniques. It was a takeaway from the class that I will be using in my personal life and at work. I would highly recommend Jenn’s class if you’re looking to reset yourself and find new ways to slow down in this busy world. |

From Chuck: As a longtime volunteer, first responder and a military veteran who has deployed to Afghanistan, I have always had trouble just relaxing. My mind and body were conditioned from my teenage years to be ready to go when the call for help came. I lived my life in a constant state of alertness. Deploying and having to worry about rocket attacks at any time or other actions happening further exacerbated the issue. Many times I heard I should meditate, yeah, it sounded good but it’s tough to convince your mind to do that when it’s already conditioned to be at the ready. Taking Jenn’s class I finally was able to begin to shut down the chaos and slowly start to relax a bit. The sound from the singing bowls and her voice really worked well to help me tell my mind and body to shut down a bit. It was very relaxing and I felt great afterwards. I highly recommend Jenn’s work for anyone in a high stress, always on occupation. She has experienced this lifestyle herself so she knows what we are going through and what needs to be done. |

Testimonial from Bill T: I'm a Marine veteran, and spent two tours in Vietnam as an infantry platoon sergeant. Like many of my Vietnam friends, I am distrustful of people I don't know well, uncomfortable in crowds or large groups, and feel like most shows of public support for my service are disingenuous at best. This is my version of PTSD. I've used Jenn's meditation recording and find that it helps me to relax and sleep better and I believe that Jenn's recording helps me to maintain that feeling of peace and relaxation beyond the times that I'm actively listening to the recording. I recommend this to any veteran who might be periodically uncomfortable in their situation. It's an easy, noninvasive way to relax and just let go of feelings that may be holding them back. |
