We're Still Here

Thanks to our Members, Shoppers & Supportive Community

JAN 24TH MEETING : FULL MINUTES AVAILABLE BELOW

OVERVIEW: Thanks to everyone that showed up to the meeting. The vote to recall the board was taken off the table and replaced by an advisory ballot aka "poll" of member confidence in the board.  The question asked was "Do you wish to retain the Board of Directors" 54 people voted yes and 20 people voted no.

Thanks to a member loan of $75K, DNF is able to keep it's doors open as we seek the next $75K needed in Feb/March to continue being viable.  The board has acquired a group of volunteers to apply for a USDA Grant, on our behalf. We're staying positive about that.

Keep your eyes open for a 'Message From The Board' which will update you about what they are doing to move DNF Co-op forward and the exciting partnerships that are in progress.

The biggest message we, the DNF staff, received was the overwhelming support of the community to see us continue in business serving our community. And that is what we will do with your continued support.  Read further to see how to share your ideas for improvement of the store.  We value your thoughts and vision.

CHANGES ARE HAPPENING

We're auditing our ordering, minimizing labor costs and store hours to save money.

Changes are already happening. Through 'category management' we've been streamlining our offerings, maintaining our best sellers and removing some products that don't sell well.  We've lowered prices where we can and are bringing back old favorites and top sellers.

We've been able to pay down some debt, the result of which is the return of: Local Carrots from High Pine Produce, James Ranch meat, Bread bread, SolaVita Kombucha, Cream Bean Berry ice cream and Solar Roast Coffee in the bulk coffee section.  Honeyville Honey and 81301 Coffee are next.

Your grocery dollars are making a huge impact on our recovery! Keep shopping and continue to spread the good word about DNF.

SEEKING YOUR VISION

In the coming weeks we'll be creating committees with different purposes to help DNF move forward. These committees will be made up of member/shoppers/community members. Ideally, once these groups are formed, they will be fairly self-sustaining with a representative that will communicate their ideas and vision with the store and/or board. The first step is to find all of you out there who want to have your ideas catalogued and/or participate in emerging committees.

1. Use the 'Contact Us' form on the website.  Share your idea or vision for the Co-op here along with your contact information if you'd like to be contacted to participate in a committee when they are formed.

Vision/Idea Contact

2. You may also email directly to outreach@durangonaturalfoods.coop although the website is preferred. Please type Idea/Vision in the subject line.

3. We'll be creating a space in the front of the store in the upcoming week to capture ideas too. It will be a DNF Vision Board of sorts.

4. The input will be gathered/catalogued and we'll be able see what categories emerge and create committees around that..  There will, no doubt, be both big picture and immediate needs. For example, as Spring is nearly upon us we'll have plenty of "Maintenance & Groundskeeping" needs.

5. Willing committee participants will be contacted and committees can be formed.  This is a big undertaking, so please submit your ideas as soon as possible and be patient.

6. Any and all input is appreciated and welcomed.  Thanks in advance for participating the in success of your Co-op!

HOW TO STAY INFORMED

Staying connected to a highly supportive, like-minded community, has a huge bearing on our ability to make the difference we want in our own lives and also support others in reaching their goals.  Durango Natural Foods Co-ops offers that support in our own way and hope to benefit our shoppers by providing a space where healthy food, the environment and the Durango community is held in the highest esteem.

Social media is a useful tool for keeping in touch with DNF and staying up-to-date on current events, specials and products.  You can find us on Facebook and Instagram.  Liking and sharing posts is the easiest way you can help DNF continue to reach new shoppers.

You've received this newsletter, but maybe your friends haven't.  Forward this to people who might be interested in DNF Co-op.  They can click the link to the website and sign up to receive future emails from there.

Meet Your Maker

Tomorrow, Friday Feb 8 is the first installment of a monthly 'Meet Your Maker' series. Stop in the store from 11am to 3pm and meet the local producers of SolaVita Kombucha, Sarvaa Superfoods and Inner Joy Bars.  Sample products and chat them up.

Thanks Ron Margolis, Rush Linhart, Eric McClusky, and Jim Bolton for getting our floor patched and painted.

It makes an appreciated difference in the store!
