Why Add Clovers to Pastures?

by C. P. Bagley, Director, Beef Research Institute

Southern University Ag Center

The second article will deal with which clovers are recommended and where they “fit” best in a grazing situation. The profitability workshop,

co-hosted LGLCI & LA Farm Bureau, will feature Gene Lollis as our workshop leader.

Gene has a long-standing ranching background, and is also the manager of Buck Island Ranch, a large-scale working cattle ranch owned by Archbold Biological Station in Florida. Gene gets to do all the things he is passionate about – cattle and nature - at Buck Island Ranch. In addition to raising cattle, he helps conduct agro-ecology research on all aspects of the ranching operation on behalf of Archbold.

The focus of this workshop, held at McNeese University, will be financial profitability - the business side of farming and ranching.

Tickets are $50, and there’s no limit to the number of participants.

Register at the farm bureau website by THIS Friday (2/10).

You are also invited to join on the Farm Bureau tour on adjoining days, but is limited to 50 participants.

The bus is quickly filling up for our Allen Williams Bus Tour in April and there is still one more week to use the code "earlybird" at checkout to take off $25 from your ticket price.

Tour-goers will be picked up in Alexandria or Winnsboro and taken to Uniontown, Alabama for an all inclusive tour of BDA Farm. Allen Williams will host our group and take us through the diverse revenue streams of the operation. To see the full agenda, visit the schedule page.

Registrants have the option for a private room (for singles and couples), or a shared two bed room if you'd like to reduce your price by having a roommate; just be sure to specify your roommate at checkout. The entire event will be catered by food from the farm and is included in your ticket price. You will be responsible for buying your lunch when we stop on the way to Alabama.

We can't wait for this exciting trip and are looking forward to hosting you in this unforgettable time of networking and learning.
