October has been another hugely successful month for Sixteen Gallery. We have really enjoyed seeing emerging and established artists alike, using the space in different ways.
It started with a wonderful exhibition by Emma Howell who treated us to come exciting, energetic and colourful landscapes alongside still life work inspired by her travels. The centre piece was a custom guitar that worked so well against the abstract artwork on the walls. It was a great example of how to build an exhibition around a theme and create a space that feels unique. She is looking forward to returning next year.
Following Emma, we then held the latest of our curated shows, an exhibition focused on Still life. It featured 21 artists who demonstrated an eclectic mix of subject matter, different media and numerous techniques. With another successful curated show we have decided to continue them into next year with one on Photography and another on Figurative work. There is a submission form online for those interest in submitting work for consideration.
We then hosted our supported artist of the year Lauren Clark who wowed us with her first solo show based around urban landscapes and architecture. The images were beautiful themselves but held a brilliant hidden twist. When viewed through a filter on a phone or tablet, the images were inverted, revealing the original colours of the scenes pictured. It was incredibly clever and we look forward to what Lauren creates next.
The last week of October has been a show by Devon based artist Maggie Rowe. Her work, inspired by the local area and wildlife is rich, vibrant and full of energy. If you have an opportunity to see the show before it ends tomorrow, it is well worth a visit.
