The Gallery ABQ News and Updates

Note from the Director

August 2022

by Patricia Cream

For twenty years, The Gallery ABQ has been an artist-owned fine art gallery featuring contemporary work by local artists. Our collection offers a wide variety of media, subjects, and styles in an open, attractive space.

August brings a fountain of talented artists. Among our very talented group of members are our two Featured Artists—George (Hauie) Hayes III (oil) and Alison Thomas, (2D acrylics and 3D glass).

George's oil paintings range from disciplined subjects to fanciful fantasy (from Cityscapes to Mindscapes). His influences range from Art Nuevo, Impressionism, Pre-Raphaelite, Sci-Fi, Mythology, Fantasy and his own imagination. He has an amazing ability to capture every detail and to control every brushstroke.

Alison uses acrylics and resin for her 2D wall art, and fused glass for her 3D glass art. Her fused glass vases and plates require patience, an understanding of art principles, as well as knowledge of the glass-fusing process.

The Gallery ABQ is  pleased to welcome Virginia Primozic, and her show "Paperworks," to the salon. Her technique of paper layering is beyond outstanding. She uses a variety of handmade papers, textures, and colors to create a painting, but no paint is applied. Her technique does not involve the traditional collage or assembly. Virginia’s style and creativity is a must see.

Please join us for our First Friday Reception on August 5, 2022, from 5:00-8:00 pm, where you can meet our Featured Artists, see Virginia Primozic’s "Paperworks," drink a glass of wine, and eat charcuterie sponsored by Cindy A. Chavez, Qualifying Broker, Realty One of New Mexico.

Normal business hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00–4:00. You can find us in Hoffmantown Center at 8210 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Contact information: 505-292-9333, abqgallery@gmail.com.

Alison Thomas

by Linda Weiss

Alison Thomas, one of the Featured Artists for August at The Gallery ABQ, works with acrylics and resin, and fused glass.  You’ll be able to meet and talk with Alison at The Gallery ABQ’s First Friday reception on August 5, 2022, from 5-8:00 pm.

Alison grew up in Florida and obtained her degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida.  She and her husband Scott moved to New Mexico over a decade ago.  Because of her love for Weimaraners, she became a volunteer for the local Weimaraner rescue.  Her inspiration for her paintings and glass comes from the beauty of the blue-green waters and the beautiful white sand beaches along the Emerald Coast in Florida and the turquoise and oranges of New Mexico scenery.

For her abstract paintings, Alison pours the resin mixed with pigments onto the canvas, manipulating the resin with a hot air gun, a palette knife or some other tool.  Or, she creates an abstract painting, and then pours a layer of resin onto the canvas.  She loves the look of resin over acrylics and feels it gives the look of depth of a glass-like layer.

After taking a class at Bullseye Glass Santa Fe, she bought her first fused-glass kiln in 2015. With Alison’s love for the look of glass, we are all lucky she has decided to add fused glass to her repertoire! She’ll be at the Gallery on August 5, from 5-8:00 pm. Come get to know her!

Cindy Chavez, Qualified Broker with Realty One of New Mexico, will host the August First Friday Reception, August 5. Cindy will be providing deli trays and macaroons! And as usual, beverages will also be available. Cindy's Contact: 505-280-0504 or CallCindy.com

Carla Forrest's Art Studio on

Albuquerque Old Town Tours

Carla Forrest is delighted that her art studio has been invited to be a stop on the Albuquerque Old Town Art Tours, conducted every Thursday afternoon from 1 to 4 pm. Elaine Ritchel, the owner and founder of Santa Fe Art Tours, is now providing engaging, interactive art tours in Historic Old Town Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Starting at the Albuquerque Museum, the tour wanders through the sculpture garden into Patio Escondido, once home to the Sagrada, a sacred arts school founded by Dominican Sister Giotto Moots in 1969, and the location of Carla’s working art studio, where visitors can experience a Local Treasure! Then the tour meanders through charming neighborhoods, hidden courtyards, off-the-beaten path art venues, and landmark museums and galleries and ends with a local wine tasting.

Please visit Carla the next time you are in Old Town! MORE INFO & RESERVATIONS: https://santafearttours.com/albuquerque-old-town-tour (active link above)
