Dear Political Texan, Welcome to TXDC’s first edition of our bite-sized daily newsletter. Through November 3rd, we'll be sharing interesting PAC-toids about Texas money’s impact in Washington. We'd love to have feedback during TXDC’s shakedown cruise, so feel free to respond, telling us what you think is important about our tracking of Texas federal stakeholders! By the way, TXDC is a non-partisan, client-focused research company that does not publicly report on elected or appointed Texans in Washington. |

USAA has spent the second most money on congressional candidates out of all Texas federal PACs. They rank 94th in the Fortune 500. They are big, they are influential, and they've completely changed their strategy in the 2020 election cycle. In the 2018 cycle, USAA spent $1,002,500 on GOP congressional candidates, but this election cycle they only spent $411,500, or $591,000 less than the previous cycle so far (9/30/2020). |
Note: The 2018 numbers were obtained from opensecrets.com, which gets their numbers from the FEC. TXDC obtained the 2020 numbers directly from the FEC. |
In 2018's key races*, USAA spent $391,000, 89.1% of those contributions going to GOP candidates. Of that $391,000, they spent $219,500 on losing candidates. |
