Thank You for Your Support!
Another year is ending and a new one bee-ginning!
We are excited to think about our accomplishments this year, and with your support, we will continue to make progress towards our goal of bringing people and
communities together to grow safe and healthy pollinator habitat, filled with
healthy, thriving pollinators of all stripes, shapes and sounds.
Please consider a year-end contribution to support our financial success in 2019.

Success: Farm Bill Rider Scrapped!
Yaayy! Good news for pollinators and people!
Thank you to everyone who took action to insure the provision that would have prevented cities from restricting pesticides in their local communities
was not included in the final version of the Farm Bill!
Because of your calls and letters - including one from the City of Talent! - and thousands from all over the country, the language was removed!
Did you know that more than 100 communities across the country have passed policies to restrict pesticides to protect people, pollinators, pets, and the planet?
This win means that we will continue to support cities in Southern Oregon that choose to transition to better, safer choices for their landscape care.

2018: A Year of Progress for Non Toxic Neighborhoods!
Following the successful model begun by Non Toxic Irvine (CA), there are now more than 45 non toxic cities and areas, including large counties (Pima County/ Tucson, AZ) and school districts (Fresno, CA) creating toxic-free public spaces.
Our Non Toxic Rogue Valley initiative, in concert with Beyond Toxics and
Non Toxic Oregon, also made great strides this year.
We are thrilled that the Talent City Council just voted to implement an 'organic first' Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan and phase out the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers on city parks and rights of ways.
Helped in part by a grant from the Ashland Food Co-op, we are continuing
to support other cities in Southern Oregon working towards the same goal.

Non Toxic Jacksonville!
Now, Non Toxic Jacksonville is advocating for alternatives to pesticides in Jacksonville parks and public spaces! NTJ is asking city leaders to schedule a study session with subject experts to explore alternatives that are safe and cost effective. The momentum started when concerned Jacksonville residents spoke at the November Council meeting. To further raise community awareness,
we carried signs behind a huge “Non-Toxic Jacksonville” banner in the
city's Annual Victorian Christmas parade.
Led by Lauren Kemple, we sang ‘Walking in a Non Toxic Jacksonville' - and
were invited by the parade MC to sing on microphone!

See You at the Rally & Public Hearing?
Jackson County Rally & Public Hearing to Stop Jordan Cove LNG
Tuesday, January 8, 4:30 pm - 8 pm
Pollinators say NO to the Jordan Cove LNG pipeline project!
If built, the Jordan Cove LNG project would harm nearly 500 waterways (including the City of Medford's public drinking water source), seize property from private landowners through eminent domain, create safety and public health hazards, impact Tribal territories, cultural resources, and burial grounds, and become the largest source of climate pollution in the state. The Oregon Department of State Lands will hear from the public about whether Jordan Cove's removal-fill permit should be denied or approved. This is one of the state permits that, if denied, would stop Jordan Cove LNG even if the Federal Government approves the project.
Show up for a rally at 4:30 at the Jackson County Expo before the hearing to show your opposition! Take action now by submitting written comments here.
Hope to see you there - and bring a friend!

Thank you, David Attenborough!
To save the pollinators, we must solve the climate crisis.
Naturalist David Attenborough issued a powerful warning at the
UN Climate Change meeting this month, stating
"If we don't take action, the collapse of our civilizations and the extinction
of much of the natural world is on the horizon.”
And, thank you to SOCAN (Southern Oregon Climate Action Now),
for helping us all learn and act.

Pollinators' Picks
Have you read The Insect Apocalypse in the New York Times Magazine
about the decline of insects all over the planet? Yes, its true.
"Scientists have begun to speak of functional extinction (as opposed to the more familiar kind, numerical extinction). Functionally extinct animals and plants are still present but no longer prevalent enough to affect how an ecosystem works. Some phrase this as the extinction not of a species but of all its former interactions with its environment — an extinction of seed dispersal and predation and pollination and all the other ecological functions an animal once had, which can be devastating even if some individuals still persist. The more interactions are lost, the more disordered the ecosystem becomes."
Now, after reading that very sad and scary article, please enjoy
these bee-autiful glamour photos from master photographer, Sam Droege.

Support Us in the New Year!
Here in S. Oregon, pollinators are better off than in many places in the country -
all because of people like YOU! But we need to continue to act and advocate to help save and support our remaining pollinators and beneficial insects.
Like what we do?
Show your support with a financial donation to help us develop and expand
our educational materials so we can reach more people about the importance of pollinators for our food systems and ecosystems.
Whether you give a little or a lot, it all adds up!
