Salado Montessori Week Eight Update |
|
|
We've been in school for TWO months! Each of you has in some way encouraged, advised and supported us, donated to, volunteered for, or helped build our beautiful school. Thank you. We have more great events and volunteer opportunities coming up too! This week we were joined by the kind and bubbly Ms. Carney. Ms. Carney now serves as Ms. Webb's assistant and plans to complete her AMI training over the next three summers. Her background includes sign-language translation for the deaf community, a skill which she has already begun integrating into her work with our kiddos. We are so excited that she has joined us! |

Curious about what a dressing frame is? It's an activity designed to help children learn care of self, a very important part of the Montessori curriculum, and important for helping children develop both coordination and independence. The Language Shelf is Open Our sandpaper letters, moveable alphabet, and other beautiful language materials are now in circulation! There is no better way to learn letters and words. The following excerpt is from montessoriworld.org/Reading/spaprltr/sprintro.html: The teaching of the sounds and letters is through a multi-sensory approach. The child will hear the sound, see its representation in the form of a letter, and feel the way it is written as the child feels the letter with his fingers. Since a motor pattern should be learned correctly the first time, it is very important that the child trace properly formed letters. This will help him develop a good pattern for handwriting. |

SPONSOR RECOGNITION Sometimes we are given a surpriseitem or donation, and recently we've received several that make our hearts sing. Thank you Chris and Doreen Morris for your very generous donation! And, thank you Tim and Amanda Gibson for our BEAUTIFUL new peach tree (and for getting it into the ground). We can't WAIT for our first harvest!!! |

Did you know: Centuries ago, the Phoenicians discovered that they could represent each of the sounds of language with a symbol. This was a great discovery since it meant that any word could be represented by a few symbols. No longer would a new symbol have to be invented for every word and idea. Written language would not be such a monumental task of memorization. Any new word could be figured out because it would be made up of symbols already known. And so, today, anyone who knows how to sound out words can decode any new word they confront.
