fall news!

The Greenwood has been full of joyful activity as we, along with the furred, feathered and leafy creatures of the forest, gather in the fall abundance and prepare for the turn towards the dark time of year! We are excited to share with you some stories from the start to our yearlong immersions, an invitation to an Ancestor Feast this coming weekend, news of our upcoming Wildlings Winter Camp and Greenwood t-shirts on the way!

Ancestor Feast! Join us this coming Sunday, November 5th, from 5:00-7:00 for a celebration of our ancestors and the many gifts they have brought to our lives. Bring a potluck dish that is a family recipe, favorite food of a beloved ancestor, or that simply reminds you of the people you come from.

Before supper we will press mountain apples into cider! After dinner we will have hot mulled cider by the fire and share stories about loved ones who have passed on - funny stories, sweet stories, whatever you might like to share to honor your people. (And of course, there's no pressure...you are also welcome to just listen!) We look forward to this very sweet evening together with everyone!

During the first two months of our yearlong immersions, the Wildwood Guardians have been busy listening to tree spirits, sneaking up on borgs, crafting journals from poplar wood, drinking wild tea, practicing fire building, laughing very hard, and uncovering clues to find their missing elders! The Muses have been learning what it means to be a hand of the woods while crafting stargazer chairs and practicing decorative woodcarving, cooking over the camp fire and listening deeply to the whisperings of the forest. The Be-wild-ered ones have been exploring the mountains of Western NC while they make camp on the edge of the national forest - carving benches, timber framing a kitchen, tapping a spring, learning friction fire, exploring wild foods and singing under the stars. Those who have come out to our Community Potlucks have crafted kudzu baskets, listened to Cherokee stories, woven english ivy, kudzu and privet headdresses, and even rumpused in the rain!!

It has been a full and beautiful start to the year and we give thanks for all of you who have helped us make these dreams come true!

With love,

Delia Ann Turner
