As a reader, I appreciate reviews and am more likely to purchase and read a book with a higher review. As an author, reviews are critical. Especially on Amazon, they are part of the algorithm that drives how books are ranked and promoted - therefore, the more reviews a book has, the more likely Amazon is to promote it.

Yellowface by R.F. Kuang has generated a lot of headlines recently. This book includes the stolen draft of a novel, a protagonist who never believes she is wrong, and someone with a grudge.

There are huge issues in publishing (and other industries). The demographics of traditionally published authors in no way matches the demographics of our country (or the world). This novel is about whether there is a level playing field and how far people will go to make a name for themselves in an unfair industry.
