How much do reviews mean? |
As a reader, I appreciate reviews and am more likely to purchase and read a book with a higher review. As an author, reviews are critical. Especially on Amazon, they are part of the algorithm that drives how books are ranked and promoted - therefore, the more reviews a book has, the more likely Amazon is to promote it. I've been thrilled with the reviews Tequila Midnight has received. If you read it and liked it, I'd appreciate a review. It does have to be long - just write down whatever you liked about the book. Thank you. |

Yellowface by R.F. Kuang has generated a lot of headlines recently. This book includes the stolen draft of a novel, a protagonist who never believes she is wrong, and someone with a grudge. There are huge issues in publishing (and other industries). The demographics of traditionally published authors in no way matches the demographics of our country (or the world). This novel is about whether there is a level playing field and how far people will go to make a name for themselves in an unfair industry. |

Happy Travels: Stonetown, Zanzibar, Tanzania |
Some places are so spectacularly beautiful and so far from your own experience, that they haunt you for years. Zanzibar is like that for me. I was fortunate to work on a USAID project there. I spent six weeks on the island the first time, and went pack a year and a half later for a follow-up project. I even worked on a remote project there during COVID. Every time I look through my photos of Zanzibar, I feel it pulling at me through the image. Perhaps I left a part of myself there. |
