February Newsletter

Hey, church communication leaders!

Below are a few items and ideas we wanted to share with you. Our annual Communication workshop is coming up the first weekend in March. We are excited to have Christina Coston, Southern Union Associate Communication Director, with us to share ways of using Social Media to expand your church's digital footprint that she used when she was Communication Director for the Iowa/Missouri Conference. And by popular demand, we are excited to have Bryant Taylor, Southern Union Communication Director, return to share new and innovative ways to use technology for your church ministry.

Focusing on Discipling

During this quinquennium, one of the primary goals of the Administration is to help our churches prioritize discipleship. It's not uncommon for individuals to join our churches, only to leave later on, not because they do not believe in the Adventist message, but due to a lack of connection. While we often hear that "our church is the friendliest church," it's essential to consider retention and pew numbers to assess how effective our efforts truly are.

As a Conference office family, we are collectively studying the Adventist Discipleship Handbook. We also encourage the leadership teams of all our churches, including elders, deacons,

Sabbath School leaders, praise team members, and communication leaders, to join us in studying this handbook together. By focusing on discipleship, we can engage all of our members, both new and seasoned, and work together to build stronger, more connected communities.

This is what you need to know about the state of social media in 2023: for the first time ever, every major social platform is prioritizing the same kind of post...vertical video. And this is a massive departure from the first fifteen years or so of social media's existence. The best part? This gives churches a massive advantage.
