A Message from our Prez When I joined ABWA, I was new to North Florida, had just started my own business, and didn’t know anyone beyond my neighborhood. While my intent was to network with professional women, the rewards have been so much more—education, mentoring, support, and encouragement that have helped me grow professionally and personally. Now I’m focused on returning the favor by making a difference--in the chapter, the community, and the lives of members who I’m proud to call sisters. I’m very excited about the opportunities we’ve planned and look forward to your involvement and enthusiasm. Whether you want to improve your career or personal life or seek to give back, I ask you to reflect on how you want to make a difference. With activities that inspire, enrich, and elevate, there are many ways ABWA can help you make it a reality. . ---Lisa Rosenblum November 2022 |

Inspiring Speakers Impart knowledge We All Can Use. A Recap of our October meeting |
s The October meeting was a great follow on to our September meeting. Leila Ansart from Leadership Impact Strategies helped us gain insight into the Perception Paradox and how we can work to dismiss this phenomenon. The interactive presentation allowed us to evaluate our leadership styles and how to work them to our benefit. Her company's mission is to help you save time by greatly reducing the headaches and delays that come from friction between people and teams. She said, "Imagine if you could perform well in your role without being slowed down by less-than-optimal working relationships, or commitment from your employees. For over a decade Leila has been advising today’s leaders through data-informed services to address the source of the friction that slows down the consistent results of their organizations. Women of Influence Mentorship Update The ABWA Eight Flags Mentorship committee has met twice this award year with the Women of Influence (WOI) Club at West Nassau High School. The first gathering in September helped establish the monthly meeting dates for our ABWA mentorship sessions, and what the group wanted to get out of membership in the club. The discussion focused on how to encourage more students to join. They also set a fee of $20 to join the WOI club to ensure member commitment. In closing, they asked for ABWA's help in putting some structure around their club. While they did well last year, the club has no structure, rules/or bylaws. At the October 20th meeting, we talked about organizational and club structures in general. And we were asked to help them understand the nominations and officer selection process. The questions from the students were excellent and they quickly understood how important it is for those wishing to be considered for an officer position or a committee co-chair to share what value they can bring to the organization as well as what they hoped to gain. ABWA agreed to serve as the nominating committee along with Mr. McKinney, they will follow the guidelines ABWA provides and those wanting to be considered will send their intentions to Lisa and Marie. A tentative date for the scholarship fundraiser was set for Friday, February 3, 2023, or Saturday, February 4, 2023, with the Saturday being the preferred date, depending on the availability of the facility. Mr. Mckinney agreed to approach Wildlight Elementary Principal to secure that date and venue, while the fundraising committee will research other venues as well. That final decision will occur no later than December 1 to ensure plenty of time for sponsor pitch material and ticket sales. The next mentoring session is set for Thursday, November 17, 2022, at which time the members will vote on the recommended slate of officers and committee co-chairs. |
