Tuesday, August 1st, student leaders from all over Maryland join together for a full day of training to become certified workshop presenters. With an optional overnight (fun-fun-fun socializing), Wednesday, August 2nd is MASC's first executive board meeting for the 2023-2024 school year.

 

Students register themselves for this event.

 

Note - the Executive Board meeting also has a virtual option.

Finance Committee

Applications close September 10

 

The MASC Finance Committee assists the MASC Treasurer in completing MASC financial goals. Members will research grant opportunities, plan fundraisers, and work on other finance initiatives, including workshops and outreach.

Advocating for Safety

Applications Open Year Round

 

The Maryland Center for School Safety (MCSS) invites students to apply for the 2023-2024 Student Focus Group, Students Advocating for Safety (SAS). Joining SAS will empower you to play a vital role in shaping student-centered recommendations for the Advisory Board and influence the Subcabinet's decision-making process. Becoming a member will also allow you to learn more about the diversity of the current school and students' safety-related issues, develop government relations and leadership skills, and grant you first-hand exposure to the inner workings of state agencies and boards.

Congratulations to the new student leaders in your region (or counties with no regional structure).  The regional president, 2nd vice president (middle school representative), and the student member on the Board of Education (SMOB, SROB, Commissioner) by virtue of their position are voting members of the MASC executive board. In order to stay informed, MASC needs contact information for these new leaders.

Happy Summer, MASC! Congratulations David!

 

Congratulations to David Arowolo (Eastern Technical High School, Baltimore County) who was appointed to serve on the National Student Council Student Advisory Committee. These students will help to plan and facilitate the upcoming LEAD Conferences in November and January. 

 

David served as the MASC 2nd Vice President this past year and is the Division 3 Liaison for the current year.

 

Work2BeWell (W2BW)

National Student Advisory Council

 

Congratulations to Sofia Fraga, Chopticon High School, St. Mary's County, on her appointment to the Work2BeWell National Student Advisory Council. She is the only Maryland student appointed!

 

W2BW is a mental health and wellness program focused on providing mental health resources and education for teens, parents, and educators. Their goal is to promote teen wellness across the country and work to normalize the conversation about mental health and reduce the stigma that surrounds it.

#ICANHELP is an international, student-led nonprofit organization focused on promoting digital safety, empowering student changemakers, and celebrating youth innovation. The organization aims to educate and empower students and educators to promote good use of technology, make a positive impact within communities, and help them to become inspirational digital citizens to prevent cyberbullying and other types of abuse. Their overarching goal is to transform future generations of students and educators based on digital awareness, digital safety, and digital wellness making a positive social impact within all communities.

Calling all Montgomery County teens! What to make a change in your community? This event is an opportunity for young people in Montgomery County to share concerns about your community and school with your Maryland State legislators The Montgomery Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) and the Montgomery County House Delegation are hosting this free youth town hall from 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 13th at the Gaithersburg Library.
