Watch the Incredible NSB Tour & Interview

On May 14, 2022, OFA partnered with Central Florida Modern for a walking tour of homes designed by Nils Schweizer, Kevin Schweizer, and Will Miller. The tour was followed by an interview with Beverly Schweizer Gurtis, Kevin and Will talking about Nils M Schweizer, who worked for Frank Lloyd Wright. Watch the video here for footage of these incredible homes and to hear some fantastic storytelling.

A big thank you to Beverly Schweizer Gurtis, Kevin Schweizer, and Will Miller for their time and to Arise Aerial for production of this video!

Historic Sanford Trolley Tour

OFA is partnering with Sanford Tours and Experiences to present a day of Trolley Tours of Historic Sanford on September 24th. There will be three 90-min tours covering the Historic Downtown District and Historic Residential District of Sanford.

Historic Sanford is admired for its brick-lined streets, boutique storefronts, live oaks, and a significant collection of historic commercial and residential architecture. Incorporated in 1877, Sanford is one of Central Florida’s oldest incorporated cities. Sanford offers diverse architecture styles from traditional Florida to specific styles dating back to 1883.

Our resident guide will provide some fascinating stories about the city's history while exploring the city more intimately.

The trolley is a fun way to reminisce about the historic charm that remains in the city today!  When you are done, visit one of the many unique restaurants and breweries in the downtown district.

Register today, spots are limited for each tour!

Join us for more upcoming tours throughout the year:

Screening of "The Pavilion in the Water" in St. Cloud

The St. Cloud Woman’s Club Heritage Museum and Orlando Foundation for Architecture are proud to announce a St. Cloud Premiere of “Isabel Roberts Pavilion in the Water”. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP here.

This film explores the futurist vision of the female architect who worked for Frank Lloyd Wright before moving to St. Cloud in 1918 with her ailing mother. Isabel designed the Veterans Memorial Library, adjacent to the Woman’s Club and many other buildings in St. Cloud.

The Orlando Foundation for Architecture collaborated with Grace Arts Center Of South Florida who received a grant from the Florida Historic Resources Board for 110 short micro-documentaries.

We have added this lost structure to our OFApedia BUILDINGS page. You can learn more about it, see photos and a computer animation of the bandstand. View here.

Artist Spotlight: Meet Tasanee Durrett—an architect and visual storyteller.

Tasanee Durrett, RA, NCARB, NOMA is a licensed architect and an artist who is driving positive social change and propelling racial justice through her visual storytelling. Her piece, “Don’t Redline Me”, won first place in the 2020 OFA Art Show and was the catalyst that helped her find and use her artistic voice for good. We asked Tasanee about how her work, her process and how her creative journey has impacted her life and helped others.

Melanie Crownover, OFA Events Committee Member and fellow artist, interviewed Tasanee for the first Artist Spotlight promoting the upcoming 4th Annual Art Show. Read the full blog article here.

Film Screening at DTO Recap

August 4th we had a great turn out for our film screening of "Two Women & the Pavilion in the Water" with Discover Downtown Orlando. A big thank you to their incredible team as well as to event sponsor L2 Studios, for elevating the event with such a wonderful breakfast. Thank you to OFA Events Chair Gregory Stock, AIA, CDT, LEED BD+C for his thorough knowledge and expertise during the Q & A.

The film, "Two Women & the Pavilion in the Water", is a fascinating history of the 1924 Lake Eola Bandstand and two incredible leading female architects Isabel Roberts and Ida Ryan, historic trailblazers and designers of that bandstand. It was produced by Grace Arts Center with a grant from Florida Division of Historical Resources. Catch the screening in St. Cloud on September 24th!
