From the EJGP Project Team Desk |
In addition to spreading the word on EJGP and sharing campaign information at tabling events, the EJGP neighborhoods team continue to speak with residents to exchange stories, images and even illustrations that highlight the different ways that their experiences are reflected in the EJGP platform. While the weather still allows, we will be setting up information and engagement tables in a few central locations as we continue to explore different ways of learning from residents and sharing our mission. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding neighborhood engagement, please reach out to Neil Brown at neil@urbankind.org.

In case you haven’t seen them yet, we have two American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) info guides now available on the new “Tools & Resources” page of the EJGP website. The first guide provides an overview of what ARPA is and the amounts of money coming to Allegheny County and to municipalities and school districts in the county. The second provides some information about the money coming to the City of Pittsburgh and how the City Council has voted to spend it. If you have any ideas for guides that would be useful for EJGP network members, please email Nasyr Bey at nasyr@urbankind.org. |

American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA) Funds |
The Economic Justice Circle (EJC) continues to advocate for equity, transparency, and community-leadership in the decision-making process. The EJC/EJGP ARPA team are strategizing for the short, medium, and long term. We’re thinking about how to increase awareness of ARPA and how people can get more involved in advocating for the equitable use of funds in their city, municipality, school district, and county. To connect, contact Amber Thompson at amber@de-bias.io. |

The Get the Lead Out (GTLO) Campaign seeks to significantly reduce the number of children with lead poisoning in Allegheny County. Currently, the campaign is focused on three areas of action. First, GTLO is advocating for the use of ARPA funds to remove lead from homes, especially rental properties where Black and brown children live. Second, GTLO is organizing residents to speak in favor of the proposed Lead Safety Law in the City of Pittsburgh. Third, GTLO is planning a summit on lead and related issues for Thursday, October 28th. Mark your calendars! |

Fair Fares for a Full Recovery |
The Fair Fares for a Full Recovery Coalition is continuing to meet to refine our strategy for developing a low-income fare program in Allegheny County. We have recently met with a number of Allegheny County Department heads and representatives from Port Authority to discuss possible paths forward for our proposed pilot program. If you would like to join our bi-weekly planning meetings or learn more about the campaign, contact Sam Applefield at sam@pittsburghfoodpolicy.org. |

Indie Author Book Expo Recap |
Though the sudden downpour washed away the outdoor festivities, everyone moved inside the Sto-Rox Library at Father Ryan Arts Center to continue the event. National and local authors read from their books and shared their experiences. A good time was had by all. Books from all of the authors will soon be available in the Allegheny County library system. Thanks to Sto-Rox Library, LiteracyNation, and Focus on Renewal Sto-Rox for co-hosting this event! |
