| Newsletter | 31 March 2021 In March, we featured poetry in recognition of International Women's Day and Women's History Month. In particular, we joined voices with those protesting the murder of Sarah Everard of the U.K. as "She Was Walking Home." We also joined voices in allyship with people of Asian descent as they face Anti-Asian sentiment globally in our maiden Valiant Scribe interview with our contributing author, Melanie Han. We explored themes such as sexual violence against men - an issue that needs more attention - in "I Never Wanted Potiphar's Wife." Reed Venrick forced us to look into a mirror reflecting how we look at history, and we ended on a light note as we all looked forward to SPRING complemented by VaL Smit's beautiful illustration. With love, ~Debra |

I Never Wanted Potiphar's Wife by Ellen HuangWritten by Ellen Huang. Years from now, sermons and wisdoms will tell of my bravery in the face of wily woman, nameless woman, thirsty for exotic drink from this fortunate slave. Years from now, they will erase sex, yet imply it everywhere. Of course, he was tempted, they will say, but of course, he never thought of it. |

Waiting for Spring by VaL SmitArtwork and poetry by VaL Smit. When the frosts of winter had ceased Its snows melted Its cutting winds ameliorated; The pain will subside Our blood in our veins no longer frozen; Spring will draw on Greenness will grow over the brown beds Refreshing it daily Suggesting the thought that Hope travelled there at night And left each morning brighter traces of her steps VaL Smit © VaL Smit is a South African artist and poet based in Cape Town. |

Sometimes it is more than one window. But it can be frustrating to visit their website and realize that they just closed to submissions. |
