Season of Gratitude

"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." - Oprah Winfrey

As the sun sets and rises each day, make time for what you are thankful for... Under the pandemic of COVID 19, social distancing has created new ways of being. Some may see it as lonely while others feel closeness in different ways. Some are traveling with masks, while others are staying home. Whether you choose to be online chatting with loved ones or quarantining with the one you love, this holiday season, make time for special moments and memories that matter to you.

Stay safe & healthy! Shine on- Coach Debbie

Mental Health + The Church Conference Review

Dr. John Draper, Project Director of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, states that spirituality is the number one factor in supporting the prevention of suicide or aiding recovery from substance abuse. Moreover, in times of distress, mental crisis, or emotional uncertainty, many look to their church or faith-based organization for spiritual guidance. Yet, when churchgoers are unable to find mental health care in their own churches or communities of faith- they feel isolated, lonely, misunderstood, and judged (Smietana, 2014). The asylum churchgoers seek spiritual respite suffers from stigma, poor or no training, and lack of awareness about mental health (Smietana, 2014). This presents a landscape of opportunity for learning and advocacy on what soul care looks like in addition to how psychoeducation on mental health in faith-based organizations can help reduce stigma. This information was addressed by national and local leaders at the Mental Health & the Church Conference on May 10, 2020 for World Mental Health Day. This conference connected local government officials, mental health organizations/systems, churches/ faith-based organizations, and therapists!
