Peace beautiful beings!
2020 continues to blow our minds - entrenched systems are being questioned and crumbling. From extractive consumerism to racist structures, people are speaking out and we are damn glad to hear the strength of this united voice. We are doing our own work for the Black Lives Matters movement by reading the history, signing petitions, talking to the older generation, listening to the stories of our brothers and sisters of color and reflecting within. We are sharing anti-racism resources here, because the truth is, racist systems are deeply entrenched here in Indian society too. We invite you to also do the work. Let 2020 be the year we collectively dismantle white supremacy!
Here in Panchgani, monsoon rains are settling in. We're planting more trees (cinnamon, jambul, coffee, shatavari, brahmi, amla, adulsa) and stacking cow dung and dried leaves on the garden beds. Overlooked rhizomes from last years' turmeric harvest are resprouting all over the farm, sending slender rolls of vivid green bursting through the mulch. The farm is lush and fertile after summer's long dry spell. Our 'radical self reliance' online workshops are continually running - check out our June workshops!
In this second newsletter, we are covering garlic brined okra, homemade alcoholic ginger beer, seed sovereignty, anti-racism and the launch of our latest co-created endeavor - an environmental film festival.
In eternal solidarity with all indigenous & peoples of color,
Laura and Kunal Khanna
