GIVING THANKS

Hi Everyone and Happy November! This is a special time for giving

thanks. It's always positive to have gratitude in our lives, but this month always brings it to the forefront. And this month's interviewee has a lot to say about that!

But first, here's what's new:

Speaking of giving thanks, a grateful thank you goes out to Diana Dunbar Place for hosting the

Third Act Quest Storytelling Experience last month! I was honored to be a part of this unique experience. The exceptional stories that were shared gave a renewed meaning to "third act!" Women from around the United States spoke of their passions, contributions, and their future visions, hopes and dreams for the world. The inspiration pulled from this experience was boundless and touched many hearts!

LAST MONTH'S "EGGING"

In October, we Egged A Girl Like Me, Inc., a non profit organization that helps girls, teens, teen moms, and young moms between the ages of 11 to 25. Their founder, Tyra, is an amazing woman doing wonderful work providing support, mentoring

and resources for the women. We were able to "egg" her with a WHOLE LOT of diapers to help out!

NOVEMBER EVENT!

We will be participating in Leon & Lulu's Books & Authors Event on Sunday, November 13 from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. It's not too early to start your Christmas

shopping! You'll find books from all genres written by Michigan authors (including some kids' books I know of!) Leon & Lulu also provides a unique shopping experience - you could spend all day in there just looking around! They are located at 96 W. 14 Mile Road, Clawson, MI. Maybe I'll see you there!

CUDDLE ALERT!

With the approaching cold weather, you'll be needing something warm and cozy! Check out our trendy apparel provided by CLOZTALK. They also make great gifts!

WHAT ARE THE EGGS UP TO THIS MONTH? (Book 1, Chapter 3)

November - Gratitude

As a special project for the month, Ms. Poach gives the Eggs a challenge of keeping a gratitude journal for one week. Greggory quickly learns he is grateful for the ability to walk, as he has a bike accident that lands him in a cast. Benedict is having trouble finding

any gratitude in his life, but the Eggs come up with a plan to help him realize things he has overlooked.

Susie Q's Kids

Susie Q’s Kids provides comfort bags to kids in need:  sick kids battling an illness, foster kids adapting to a new life, kids in shelters feeling safe, trafficked and bullied kids finding peace, autistic kids exploring new ideas, grieving kids learning to cope with their loss, and suicidal kids finding the hope to continue on.  We partner with established non-profits to distribute our comfort bags to kids in their programs, such as hospitals, shelters, foster care, and agencies that help those grieving the loss of loved ones.  Participants from businesses, churches, local groups, and individuals provide material support and our wonderful volunteers make it happen. We strive to address the physical, emotional, and mental health of kids, “one bag at a time,” to create some normalcy, relief, and support during what can be an incredibly stressful time for a child.

Our daughter Susie passed in 2017 from sepsis at the age of 31 after a lifetime of medical issues. Susie was a very positive and inspirational person throughout her life and we continue her thirst to help others through our non-profit, Susie Q’s Kids, by providing comfort bags to kids in need in our community. Her legacy lives on by inspiring those involved with Susie Q’s Kids, the kids helping and those receiving our bags.

There are three components to our comfort bags:

  • Hygiene items (shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, hairbrush, comb, bar soap)

  • Activity items (coloring, activity and puzzle books, journals, crayons markers, UNO, cards, matchbox cars, silly putty, beanie babies, stress balls, water bottles)

  • Comfort items (panda bear, blanket, inspirational items, socks, hats, and gloves.

Susie Q’s Kids' short-term goal is to improve their reach in the community to aid 5,000 kids a year. We plan to expand and share our mission with:

  • youth & school programs

  • churches, grief and hospice programs

  • funeral homes

We hope to do so through speaking engagements and to entice businesses and organizations to get involved, as well as expand our “kids helping kids” and volunteer program.

Yes! We do a lot of outreach with our community:

  • American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Awareness

  • Sterling Heights Lions Club

  • Susan G. Komen

  • Discovery Center of Macomb

  • Board Member for Bereaved Parents of USA Macomb

  • Grief Facilitator for New Hope Center for Grief Support

Keeping things in balance is a necessity. One of my favorite times of the week is date night with my husband whether a night on the town, a working meeting, speaking, or a pizza night watching television. Balance is the key!

Ask yourself daily: What did you do for yourself? What did you do to help someone else?  If you can answer both, you can find balance in your life.

Contact me at drmary@susieqskids.org with your ideas or thoughts. We would love to collaborate:

  • sponsorships

  • donation drives

  • discounts

  • speaking engagements

  • volunteering

We are enhancing our website https:// susieqskids.org/ in order  to share more ways to become involved  & announce upcoming bag stuffing events and events in our community.

Thank you for reading about Dr. Mary's story and Susie Q's Kids!

You can find more information,

especially about how to help, on their website: www.susieqskids.org

Next month's interview will feature a man helping

others with a microphone! What???

Have a beautiful Thanksgiving!

See you in December and

thanks for being a Good Egg!

Kindly,
