Greetings CCCHS Members, Fall Theme for Council? Carry On! Whether we like it or not, the casual feel of summer is almost over and everything is kicking up a gear as we head into the fall months. CCCHS has great plans and expectations for the next few months, but a question mark lingers over those plans as covid concerns linger over us all. As I was reflecting on our decisions, I realized we will do our best to carry on with trainings, meetings, and membership benefits the best we can and have a backup plan in place. After all, isn’t that what we are all doing these days? In September, we are excited to welcome members back to an IN-PERSON meeting at Calvary Church on Wednesday, September 1 at 12 PM. As usual, bring your lunch and any materials you would like to share. We will be masked and do our best to both network and remain socially distanced. Each October we love our tradition of Lunch with the Legislators and we want that tradition to continue. As of now, we feel we can safely accommodate everyone in person for this event, although we may not be able to offer lunch. Stay tuned for more information. If guidelines recommend a move to virtual, we will have that option too. As always, Jeannine Lozier will MC this event and welcomes questions to be sent ahead of time to ccchs2@gmail.com. We also wanted to maintain our self-care member benefit and are happy to offer a free VIRTUAL training with our friend Annie Macelli on October 8. Our hope is it’s a Friday and you can enjoy lunch and take the afternoon to learn about practical ways to release worry, stress, and secondary trauma and then take the weekend to reenergize yourself. Those who attend will also get a “freebie” of a 30-minute session with Annie. Don’t forget to register yourself and your co-workers on our website! Lastly, it’s been a while since we offered one of our training opportunities. We’re excited to once again partner with ACAP (Adult Children of Aging Parents) of Centre County to host a VIRTUAL joint training on Advocacy – How to Use Your Voice for yourself, your clients, and your loved ones. This training will also be free of charge and something we can all use a little help with from time to time. Join us on October 29! So, as we all carry on through these next few months, please be rest assured that Council continues to work on ways to maximize your membership. We welcome your feedback and willingness to get involved. Please feel free to contact me anytime! With Warmest Regards, Melissa Bottorf CCCHS President PA Link to ADRC |

Mid-Penn Legal ServicesAccess To Justice Virtual Celebration You are invited to join us on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. via Zoom for MidPenn’s “Access to Justice” event, in which we will honor pro bono volunteers, law firm supporters, and other volunteers who have supported MidPenn. Today, more than ever a majority of Americans with limited means face their civil legal problems without a lawyer, sometimes not even recognizing their need for legal assistance. With that in mind, we want to recognize and celebrate our local justice heroes, those who have partnered with us to support our mission of providing high-quality civil legal services for low-income residents and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Please join us as we hear remarks from Superior Court Justice, the Honorable Carolyn H. Nichols, and as we honor those who have dedicated their efforts to improving the lives of our clients and the communities where we live and work. | | |

Jana Marie Foundation to hold several special events during September National Suicide Prevention Month is recognized around the country each September. It is a time to think about those who have died by suicide and the impact suicide has had on millions of people across the United States. Jana Marie Foundation’s mission, regardless of the month, is to provide tools for individuals and communities to prevent suicide, and also help bring the issues of mental wellness and health to the forefront. The foundation formed in 2012 and is dedicated to Jana Marie Vicere, who in 2011 lost her battle to depression and died by suicide at the age of 30. She spent much of her life helping others and loved creative expression and the arts. Each September is a special time for the foundation as it presents special events throughout the month in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month. On Friday, September 10 (World Suicide Prevention Day), Jana Marie Foundation holds its annual “Evening of Hope, Healing, and Remembrance” at 5:30 p.m. at Wasson Farm in State College. The evening is designed to create public awareness about suicide prevention, remember those we have lost, give hope to survivors, and end the stigma that surrounds mental health and suicide. The evening is free to attend and includes dinner, music, and guest speakers. On Thursday, September 23, Philosophy of Hope III: Your Authentic Self will be at the State Theatre beginning at 7 p.m. The event will feature inspiring songs written by singer-songwriter-author Ken Baxter as well as new arrangements of memorable songs from the past. Other performers include Molly Countermine, Richard Sleigh, Daryl Branford, Judson Mantz, Rene Witzke, and other noted artists. Tickets are $33 and can be purchased by visiting thestatetheatre.org. The foundation has several other events scheduled for September, including a drum circle on September 11, Survivors of Suicide Loss support group meetings on September 14, 21, and 28, and more. “Having a designated month for suicide prevention allows us all to use our collective voices to help end the silence that often surrounds the topic,” says Marisa Vicere, founder and president of Jana Marie Foundation. “However, our work stretches well beyond this month. Suicide prevention education and strong focuses on mental health and wellness should be encouraged every day of the year and that's exactly what we do here at Jana Marie Foundation. We encourage you to come out, get involved, and be the difference. Together, we can open minds and save lives." For more information on the foundation, suicide prevention, mental health, and foundation events, visit janamariefoundation.org and follow Jana Maria Foundation on Facebook and Instagram. |
