Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

2021

As January 2021, begins with a fresh new year, month, and thirty-one days, this month always reminds me of the upcoming weeks to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s life’s dedication towards human equality and civil rights for people of color.

In the year of 1968, Dr. King was assassinated in April, and I was born in December. My mother has often told me around the time of Dr. King’s death.

“Black Americans were so heartbroken of his death, it was as if the world had stopped.” I was curious about The 1960’s, and the research I found were the highs and lows with the death of John F. Kennedy, the fight for Civil Rights, and President Lyndon Johnson’s determination to make the United States the Great Society with providing programs to help the poor.

The year 2020, definitely preceded the 1960’s, but through it all Dr. King left a legacy in history that would change the lives of generations to come.

Moving Forwarding to 2021, Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream Speech'' resonates with me as if I was transformed through my computer back to 1963, in Washington D.C. soaking up his every word. Dr. King’s “ I Have A Dream” Speech inspires me to look at 2021, with a new lens of hope towards Social Equality for people of color and women. Dr. King’s I Have A Dream Speech is definitely our Sankofa where the importance of reaching back to knowledge gained in the past, and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress.

Side note Our Progress: The People have voted and their voices are heard President Elect Joseph Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris have changed the faces of the President Officers.)

Being Mindful to Dr. Martin L. King’s Dream, I reflect on his vision to serve others.  Every third Monday of January, I reflect on how I can demonstrate service to others. Whether I’m serving family or friends, the mission is to serve with a labor of love for others. I’m so grateful to God for giving Dr. King’s  ability to define, and show us what his purpose and service looked like here on this Earth. To Dr. King, the cost of serving others had no measurement regardless of who you were. He SERVED people and their civil rights!

I often wondered if Dr. King was alive, what would his words of wisdom be for us today?

Wear a Mask!" Yes, I'm pretty sure Dr. King would be on board to challenge us to adhere the Covid-19 Safety Precautions.

Although Dr. King’s eloquent sermons and speeches with jargon left us mesmerized, we can still hold true he was our Civil Rights Hero! There is no question in my mind that Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream Speech” should always stay alive, and to proceed with action for Change for Social Equality.

The question I propose to you is how will you keep Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Dream Alive 2021?
