REDES AND DASC Enter agreement with major Colombian open television broadcasters CARACOL TV and RCN TV |
In a historical event for the effective recognition of authors’ rights in Colombia, the screenwriters (REDES) and audiovisual directors (DASC) Colombian audiovisual Collective Management Organizations, entered agreements with the major open television broadcasters Caracol Televisión and RCN Televisión, for their payment of royalties of authors’ tights for public communication of audiovisual works. We celebrate this milestone with all authors, with our sister Collective Management Organizations and with all the people and entities who support our work. ¡Thank you #LeyPepeSánchez! |

The agreements in the words of their protagonists |
""I’m fully convinced that with these agreements we are setting example to a lot of people in the industry, who have not observed authors’ rights and neighboring rights. I feel proud of being part of RCN and I’m also proud of my colleagues at Caracol, because we are two companies that have been respectful to authors’ rights” Juan Fernado Ujueta. Secretary General RCN Televisión. |
"The right was something that was conquered, as it was an obvious right, but this is an acknowledgement of that talent...we need to continue to support Colombian talent and acknowledge it” Jorge Martínez. Secretary General and Legal Representative to Caracol Televisión |
"This is a great step, we begin to fully exercise the right, which is to start cashing off our rights, that makes all the difference. At REDES we understand that those who communicate our works as well as us being those who create it, are like Siamese siblings. We need each other to survive”. Alexandra Cardona. Screenwiter President REDES |
"Today is a memorable day for audiovisual directors and screenwriters in Colombia. We are signing a 10-year agreement with two of the largest channels in Latin America and the world...” Mario Mitrotti. PresidentDASC |
" It is a step forward in the consolidation of the film and television industry in Colombia, and an acknowledgement from the large companies to us, the people that work to create. Is a step towards converting Colombia into a clearer, fairer and more developed country” Carlos Alberto (Peto) Restrepo. Director & screenwriter |
"The next step is to distribute the money amongst directors and writers and on the other hand, to continue to consolidate international agreements so that we receive more and more money from other countries” Carlos Gaviria. Director and Screenwriter - Member of the Board of Directors of REDES. |
"I basically think about my students, I do it thinking of them, because my moment occurred many years ago...In the past that right was not even thought of, they said “we are going to give you a very significant compensation”, but there are not going to be authors’ rights and you will not have a way to claim them”. Martha Bossio. Member of the Board of Directors of REDES |
"In 2017, with Pepe Sánchez Law, it was possible to achieve that users pay an equitable remuneration to authors, it’s a second order right, this is a very important legacy to new generations because those who made television with their fingernails, never achieved this acknowledgement” Adriana Saldarriaga. ASB Consultores |
""It’s important that we are members of REDES and that we support the screenwriters of our country, because if we become members of international CMOs, that money will remain over there and not here, that’s why it is important to be a part of REDES and support all these efforts and celebrate the acknowledgement that the channels are making by entering these agreements” Lizet Zárrate. Screenwriter – Member of the Board of Directors of REDES. |
"We are very happy, today we signed with RCN and Caracol, our rights finally acknowledged" Claudia Liliana Neira. Screewriter Member of the Board of Directors of REDES |
"We are happy because we have worked a lot for this. At the beginning it seemed like an impossible dream and we had to make a Law and then start to negotiate with Caracol and RCN and we thought it was impossible, but here we are signing, so this is wonderful” - Camila Loboguerrero. Member of the Board of Directors of DASC |
