Congratulations! To ALL the Home Stretch WA Community of Practice members for working together across the state to support young people leaving care and winning the Youth Affairs Council of WA (YACWA) Youth Focus Sector Collaboration Award 2023 presented at the Boola Bardip Museum last Friday night. Lived Experience Consultants Shelley, Kat, Jett and Chris accepted the award on behalf of Community of Practice members. It was wonderful to share this experience with representatives from Yorganop, Wanslea, Salvation Army, Mission Australia, the Department of Communities and Anglicare WA attending. |

"Lived experience has been a critical part of Home Stretch. To be able to hold those roles and share our experiences, to be agents of change and to have the support of everybody and to be kept safe by everybody. We've sat in rooms where conversations were incredibly difficult, but we knew that we had to lead that space. We knew that we had to stand strong. We did and so we wanna say thank you. Thank you for letting us share our experiences to contribute to Home Stretch and thank you to all those hundred and thirty seven young people that were brave with us to share what their eighteenth birthday implied. Because it wasn't exactly pretty for us, but now we get to be a part of something where other young people's eighteenth birthday was a lot more promising and better. So on behalf of us we wanna say thank you." Excerpt from speech by Shelley Farmer accepting the Youth Focus Sector Collaboration Award on behalf of the Home Stretch WA Community of Practice members. |

The Home Stretch WA Community of Practice Team would like to acknowledge and farewell Jess Walpole, our Data Queen, who has worked tirelessly over the past year developing and establishing the Home Stretch Service Tracking Tool to capture the minimum data set. Her remarkable ability to understand complexities, problem solve and learn new skills (Power BI anyone) all while helping others become confident in capturing and using data will be sorely missed. The Service Tracking Tool is a legacy left by Jess that allows for all of us to access information about the experiences of young people and the programs that are supporting them that has never existed in the system before. She has also contributed her expertise to the Disability Working Group and we wish her well in her new role at the Department of Communities, working to improve the experience of children and young people living with a disability in WA. Farewell Jess, thank you for your all your work. We will miss you |
