From the Board

Hello Hookers! Well, they say April showers bring May flowers, but last week's showers brought more than flowers... more like PTSD and additional water damage to some of our Sisters' and fellow Islanders' homes. If you were affected by this, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
I've been Chaplain for four months now, and I have to tell you, it's been pretty inspirational! Although individual outreach has been rather slow due to other programs we've had in place, just being a part of the Board and seeing behind the scenes how much work and effort goes into every event, no matter how big or small, is amazing. There are so many different skills and personalities amongst us, and both of these virtues are really what it takes to pull all these events off. So if you haven't signed up yet to volunteer for one of these events, please do. You won't regret it!
I'd also like to thank you for putting up with my jokes once a month. Standing in front of you all takes me out of my comfort zone and it's really been a wonderful experience.
Before I go, here's a quote that seems to fit well at this juncture in our lives.
"I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles." -Audrey Hepburn

May the spirit lift you up,
Tania Watkins

Belk Charity Days May 5, 6, & 7

Friday, May 5th through Sunday, May 7th.  The store at Surfside opens at 10 am each day and we have been invited to participate.  We will be onsite selling vouchers for $5 each which gives the shopper $5 off their next purchase.  And we keep 100% of the $5 for each voucher sold!  They will have special sales going on all weekend and these coupons are stackable.  VOLUNTEERS are needed and we are not the only group that's been invited.  So, please reach out to DJ as soon as you can with the date and time slot that you would like to volunteer, and I can reserve those time slots in advance!  Call and leave a message or text DJ at 239-910-3829.  (For starters, I'll take the 5:30pm to 7:30pm slot on Friday evening; anyone care to join me?)

Free Shred Day Event May 6

The Greater Pine Island Elks Lodge #2871 will again be hosting a FREE Shred Day for the Pine Island Community.  From 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, May 6, residents can bring banker-sized boxes or 13 lb. plastic bags of documents to the Pine Island United Methodist Church, 5701 Pine Island Rd, Bokeelia, FL 33922, and have their documents shredded securely and safely by Shred It Direct.  A drive-thru format in the church parking lot will be used.  While FREE, monetary donations will be accepted to benefit the award-winning Pine Island Leaders of Tomorrow (PILOT) free after school enrichment program.
