MASC Staff Applications

MASC is looking for dedicated student leaders who are interested in participating in student government at the state level and willing to work together to accomplish MASC goals.  Being on MASC staff is an experience of immeasurable value that opens indescribable opportunities.

Calvert Association of Student Councils (CASC) will be hosting the Division 5 Conference on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Patuxent High School!

Maryland Youth Advisory Council

Applications March 1 - June 30

 

Maryland Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) gives Maryland youth the opportunity to provide feedback and recommendations regarding public policies and programs.

 

MASC is able to appoint two students to serve a two-year term. Two students appointed last year are serving their second year in 2023-2024.

 

Be sure to check "MASC" on how you heard about this in order to be considered for an appointment by MASC!

April Service Spotlight: Celebrating Global Volunteer Month


April is Global Volunteer Month. This is a time to celebrate and honor all of the volunteers who are making a difference in our communities. This month can also be a time to explore new volunteer opportunities and show the importance of community service/service learning. Maryland Civic Education Coalition: The 2023 Youth Service Awards will recognize exemplary Maryland youth and youth groups, from 6th to 12th grade, who rise up and lead Maryland through service with significant and direct volunteerism. (Students, you may nominate yourself!) Deadline April 5th

 

#ICANHELP and Digital4Good - So many opportunities to use digital for good! #ICANHELP has monthly webinars, special events, classes, workshops, and our social media community. All of the resources are available to help you engage students in digital citizenship. Sign up for the free 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6, webinar on writing your resume.

 

NatStuCo sticker design contest – National Student Leadership Week! Contest finalists will each receive a $100 gift card. The overall winner will receive a $250 gift card, and their school will receive 250 free stickers. The winning design will be printed and made available in the official NHS, NJHS, and NatStuCo online stores. Deadline April 7th 

 

Learning for Justice Educator Fund: The LFJ Educator Fund funds classroom-level ($500 - $2,500 grants) and school & district-level ($2,500 - $25,000 grants) projects focused on restorative discipline, youth civic engagement, or dismantling oppressive narratives. Deadline April 14th

 

Summer 2023 Civic Spring Fellowships: The Civic Spring Fellowship is an opportunity for teams of four to seven young people to strengthen their civic capacities while addressing an identified community need. Teams will receive up to $14,000—including $1,800 stipends for Fellows. Deadline April 14th

 

MyImpact Challenge - MyImpact Challenge is a civic engagement contest hosted by the Bill of Rights Institute. Student service projects can win up to $10,000, with $40,000 in total prizes available to students and teachers. Deadline: May 21st

 

Legacy Youth Leadership is a 501(c)(3) that provides FREE, skill-based leadership programming to help students use their time, money, voice, and vote to make impact! Looking to engage students in service learning and increase the impact of their philanthropic efforts? Bring LYL's Student Leadership Program to your school as the first step. Students completing this program earn scholarship opportunities, conference invitations, mentorship, and more! Invent2Prevent - is a High School student-led, peer-developed initiative to prevent targeted school violence! Sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center for Prevention Program and partnerships (CPS), high school students create and activate their own peer-developed initiatives, products, and tools to prevent targeted violence and help create safe schools and communities.

NatStuCo Distinguished Student Leaders: High School Students - A rigorous and challenging skill- and knowledge-based recognition program created to identify outstanding individual student council leaders in high schools. On-going applications

 

NatStuCo Emerging Student Leaders: Middle School: This program identifies outstanding student council leaders who have made significant strides in developing their skills as young leaders. On-going applications

Horatio Alger Association: Interested in pursuing an associate's degree or certificate program? $2,500 scholarships are awarded to students with financial needs who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their lives and wish to pursue a career or technical education at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States. Applications close June 15th.

 

Cooke Young Scholars Program: The Cooke Young Scholars Program is a selective five-year, pre-college scholarship for high-performing 7th-grade students with financial needs. Applications close May 11th.

Five Steps to Get Students Thinking About Ethics: The Rutgers Social-Emotional Character Development Lab has developed a step-by-step framework that builds upon principles of SEL to help students build ethical thinking and SEL skills while tackling real-world issues.

 

Work2BeWell: is a digital wellness program focused on positively impacting the emotional well-being of teens and promoting mental health. Check out a ton of free resources!

 

NA4SA Resources: The National Association for Student Activities (NA4SA) is a GREAT advisor-focused organization offering free webinars, free resources, and conferences.

 

Character Strong: Are you on the email list to get free materials from Character Strong? They offer great materials, webinars, curriculum, and quick "Character Strong Weekly" short activities. Check it out.
