... in the last newsletter, I touched on the idea of "becoming" — for you, for me, for your family — EVERY single time we paint, cook our meals, play a game, knit that blanket. When we create, what exactly are we advancing? Our skills? Yes. Our experience? Of course. But there's more. In Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi's popular 1990 book Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, the mind can be set free through the process of creating. Unlike "time flies while you're having fun", being in flow means time literally ceases to exist — creative suspended animation, if you will. The author explains how this "flow state" space benefits our brains and our bodies. I'll touch on these tangible benefits in the next newsletter. It's pretty fascinating stuff!
On that note, scroll down to see what's coming up on Valerie May Art's public* schedule. By signing up for a creativity event, you'll gather with friends you haven't met yet at the sweet Glen Williams Town Hall - a venue that will make you feel right at home, located directly beside the iconic Copper Kettle pub in Glen Williams. Great for a before or after workshop snack or meal ;)
*you can also contact me for private group workshops at your home or place of business - great for ladies nights, family fun nights, work team builders - head to the website for info!
